The UIC Flames and the IUPUI Jaguars meet in Horizon League college basketball action from Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The UIC Flames will look to build on a 76-72 win over Wright State in their last outing. Michael Diggins led the Flames with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes while Jordan Blount added 16 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Braelen Bridges and Tarkus Ferguson added 12 points apiece with Bridges shooting 6 of 9 while Ferguson had team-highs of 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Godwin Boahen added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for UIC in the winning effort. Ferguson leads UIC with an average of 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, UIC is averaging 65.9 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 32.8% from behind the arc and 68.8% from the foul line this season.
The IUPUI Jaguars will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 96-71 loss to Northern Kentucky last time out. Marcus Burk led the Jaguars with 25 points on 9 of 16 shooting while Grant Weatherford added 12 points and 8 rebounds and Isaiah Williams added 11 points to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for IUPUI in the loss. Elyjah Goss added a team-high 11 rebounds while Jaylen Minnett added 7 points with a team-high 4 assists. Burk leads IUPUI in scoring with an average of 19 points per game while Minnett leads the Jaguars in assists with 3.4 assists per game and Goss leads IUPUI in rebounding by averaging 11 rebounds per game this season. As a team, IUPUI is averaging 68.9 points per game on 41.7% shooting from the field, 34.3% from 3-point range and 63.8% from the foul line this season.
UIC is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. IUPUI is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog.
I’m not trying to get behind either of these teams here, but UIC may be able to build some momentum after their upset win over Wright State and the Flames haven’t been terrible covering the number on the road this season. IUPUI has won games at home, but the Jaguars haven’t really done a good job covering the spread. All in all, I like the Flames just a little bit more, so I’ll lay the points with UIC here.
