The Missouri State Bears and the Evansville Purple Aces meet in MVC college basketball action from the Ford Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Missouri State Bears will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 91-78 loss to Bradley last time out. Keandre Cook led the Bears with 22 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 4 threes while Lamont West added 14 points with 4 threes and 5 rebounds as well. Gaige Prim added 13 points with 5 rebounds while Isiaih Mosley added 12 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Missouri State in the losing effort. Ford Cooper Jr. added 6 points with 3 assists and 3 steals as well in the defeat. Cook leads Missouri State in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game while Tyrik Dixon leads the Bears in assists with 3.6 assists per game and Tulio Da Silva leads Missouri State in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Missouri State is averaging 67.1 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 74.8% from the foul line this season.
The Evansville Purple Aces will be out to snap a five-game losing streak after a 65-42 loss to Indiana State in their last outing. Sam Cunliffe led Evansville with 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting with a pair of threes and 5 rebounds as the lone double-digit scorer for Evansville in the losing effort. Shamar Givance grabbed 6 rebounds with a team-high 3 assists while Jawaun Newton added a team-high 7 rebounds and K.J. Riley had 5 points with 3 steals. Artur Labinowicz added 9 points as well in the defeat. Deandre Williams missed the game with a back injury, but still leads Evansville with an average of 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Evansville is averaging 71.3 points per game on 43.4% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 71.6% from the foul line this season.
Missouri State is 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss while the under is 15-5 in their last 20 road games. Evansville is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 home games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. The underdog is 15-6-1 ATS in the last 22 meetings between these two teams.
I’d like to think that Evansville will come out and at least compete at home in front of their home fans but the issue is that you can really see what the loss of Deandre Williams has done to the Aces and even if he was there, Evansville is just struggling right now, scoring just 138 points across their last three games, losing each by at least 20 points. Tyrik Dixon’s injury is a blow for the Bears, but the Bears are at least playing decent enough basketball and are the better team side by side compared to Evansville. I’ll back Missouri State on the road in this one.
