The Omaha Mavericks and the Denver Pioneers meet in Summit League college basketball action from the Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Omaha Mavericks will look to rebound from a 91-81 loss to South Dakota last time out. KJ Robinson led the Mavericks with 20 points on 7 of 16 shooting with 4 threes and 5 rebounds while Wanjang Tut added 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting and JT Gibson added 12 points. Marion Ruffin added 11 points while Matt Pile chipped in 10 points with a team-high 8 rebounds to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Omaha in the loss. Gibson leads Omaha in scoring with an average of 14.4 points per game while Pile leads the Mavericks in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 11.5 points along with a team-leading 10.4 rebounds per game and Ayo Akinwole leads Omaha in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Omaha is averaging 72.2 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 35.5% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.
The Denver Pioneers will be out to snap a ten-game losing streak after an 86-80 loss to Western Illinois in their last outing. Jase Townsend led the Pioneers with 28 points on 11 of 19 shooting with 3 triples and a team-high 8 rebounds while Ade Murkey added 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 rebounds and a team-high 3 assists and Robert Jones added 13 points with 7 rebounds to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Denver in the loss. Townsend leads Denver in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game while Murkey leads the Pioneers in rebounding with 5.4 rebounds per game and roscoe Eastmond leads Denver in assists with 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Denver is averaging 65.6 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field, 31.3% from behind the arc and 66.2% from the foul line this season.
Omaha is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Denver is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss. The favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I’d like to think that the Pioneers wake up and win one for the home fans to snap this losing streak, especially after competing with Western Illinois. However, the Pioneers are being outscored by 2.6 points per game at home this season and while Omaha is being outscored by 15 points per game on the road, there are gave against Arizona (which was a 50-point beatdown loss), Saint Mary’s, Washington State and Dayton. The losing streak’s not ending here. I’ll side with Omaha on the road in this one.
