The Georgia Southern Eagles and the Troy Trojans meet in Sun Belt conference college basketball action from the Trojan Arena on Thursday night.
The Georgia Southern Eagles will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 71-51 win over Louisiana in their last outing. Isaiah Crawley and Elijah McCadden each had a team-high 13 points with McCadden adding 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists while Crawley shot 4 of 5 from the floor with 5 rebounds. Simeon Carter added 11 points with 9 rebounds to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Georgia Southern in the win while Quan Jackson added 9 points with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Ike Smith had 8 points but still leads Georgia Southern in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game while Carter leads the Eagles in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per game and Calvin Wishart leads Georgia Southern in assists with 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgia Southern is averaging 76.1 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the arc and 69% from the foul line this season.
The Troy Trojans will look to rebound from a 76-68 overtime loss to Arkansas State in their last outing. Darian Adams led the Trojans with 20 points with 3 threes and 6 rebounds while Tahj Small added 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting with 3 threes as the only other Troy player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Jakevan Leftridge added 8 points and a team-high 7 rebounds with a pair of steals while Desmond Williams added 9 points and Ty Gordon added 6 points with a team-high 4 assists as well in the defeat. Adams leads Troy in scoring and assists with an average of 13.8 points and 3.4 assists per game while Zay Williams leads Troy in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Troy is averaging 70.2 points per game on 40.9% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the arc and 67.9% from the foul line this season.
These two teams are about even defensively on the year, but the difference for me is that the Eagles are the better offensive team so far this season and are only being outscored by 5.1 points per game on the road this season which could be a lot worse. Troy has been a hard team to side with all season long and I just think we’re getting a free bucket with the better team here. I’ll take Georgia Southern and the points here.
