The UMass Minutemen and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies meet in A-10 college basketball action from the Blue Cross Arena on Wednesday night.
The UMass Minutemen will look to rebound from an 88-60 loss to Dayton last time out. Tre Mitchell led the Minutemen with 16 points along with a team-high 7 rebounds, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks. Carl Pierre added 12 points while Sean East II added 11 points with 3 threes to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for UMass in the loss. Mitchell leads UMass in scoring with 14.8 points per game while East II leads the Minutemen in assists with 4.9 assists per game and Samba Diallo leads UMass in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UMass is averaging 71.4 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 36.6% from 3-point range and 68.6% from the foul line this season.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies will look to build on their three-game winning streak after a 64-44 win over Fordham last time out. Kyle Lofton led the Bonnies with 17 points on 6 of 7 shooting with a team-high 7 assists while Jaren English added 16 points with 6 assists as the only other St. Bonaventure player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Osun Osunniyi added 6 points with 14 rebounds as well while Dominick Welch chipped in 9 points with 6 rebounds. Lofton leads St. Bonaventure in scoring and assists with an average of 14.8 points and 6.6 assists per game while Osunniyi leads the Bonnies in rebounding with 9.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, St. Bonaventure is averaging 67.9 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the arc and 75% from the foul line this season.
UMass is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a tea with a winning record while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 neutral site games. St. Bonaventure is 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 13-4 in their last 17 games following a win.
Part of me considered taking UMass and the points with the game being on a neutral floor, but the problem is that the Minutemen just haven’t been playing well lately, which the opposite has to be said for St. Bonaventure as the Bonnies are beating the teams they should beat, and doing it handily like they did against Fordham. I just like the Bonnies a lot more than I do UMass and I’ll lay the points with St. Bonaventure as I see this being a double-digit win for the Bonnies.
