College Basketball: Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 7:30 pm (Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena)
The Line: Saint Joseph's Hawks +9 -- Over/Under: 153.5
The Rhode Island Rams and the Saint Joseph’s Hawks meet in college basketball action from Hagan Arena on Wednesday.
Rhode Island comes in here at 10-5 on the year. Following consecutive losses to Brown and Richmond, the Rams have won their last two games versus Davidson and VCU.
In the win over the Rams, Rhode Island’s Jeff Dowtin put up 21 points with seven rebounds to lead the way. Daron Russell added 16 points there and Tyrese Martin had 13 points with seven rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Saint Joseph’s side, they’re 3-13 this year. The Hawks are sitting on a four-game losing streak, falling to Richmond, Dayton, Duquesne and Davidson during that stretch of games.
In the loss to the Wildcats, Saint Joseph’s Ryan Daly put up 28 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Cameron Brown added 14 points with five rebounds, and Lorenzo Edwards had 10 points with six rebounds.
St. Joseph’s is 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 7-18-2 ATS in their last 27 after an ATS win. The under is 3-1-1 in the Hawks’ last five overall and 15-5-1 in their last 21 home games.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 Wednesday games. Rhode Island is 2-5 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win and the over is 27-12 in their last 39 road games.
Rhode Island is normally pretty good at putting up points, but they haven’t hit 70 in any of their last three games. That said, the Rams have allowed just 114 combined points over their last pair and have a capable defense when they’re so motivated.
Saint Joseph’s has had some difficulties over their last four games and can’t seem to get much going. I like Rhode Island to come in here and bang out a cover on a vulnerable team.
