The Akron Zips and the Northern Illinois Huskies meet in college basketball action from NIU Convocation Center on Tuesday.
Akron comes in at 13-3 on the year. The Zips are riding a four-game win streak right now, beating UMass, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Ball State during that time.
In the win over the Cardinals, Akron’s Xeyrius Williams led the way on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Loren Jackson posted 19 points with eight assists there, and Tyler Cheese had 17 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Northern Illinois side, they’re 9-7 this year. The Huskies are 2-2 in the last four games, falling to Green Bay and Central Michigan while otherwise beating Buffalo and Eastern Michigan.
In the win over the Eagles, Northern Illinois’ Eugene German put up 17 points with seven rebounds and two assists. The only other NIU player in double-digits there was Noah McCarty with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
NIU is 3-9 ATS in the last 12 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a winning straight-up record. The under is 7-2 in the Huskies’ last nine overall and 7-2 in their last nine Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Zips are 5-0 ATS in the last five Tuesday games and 17-8 ATS in their last 25 overall. Akron is 6-1 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win and the under is 14-6 in their last 20 road games.
Akron has put up 75 points or more in three of four games during this win streak, which is a nice turnaround after posting just 129 combined points in their previous pair. That’s probably more of an aberration than anything, as the Zips are a pretty solid offensive team.
As for Northern Illinois, they’ve been scoring pretty well lately also with at least 71 in four of their last five. I think the Huskies are playing well enough right now that they can bang out a cover here. I’m going NIU.
