The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Howard Bison meet in college basketball action from Burr Gymnasium on Monday.
South Carolina State enters this game at 6-8 overall. Following consecutive wins over Jacksonville and Coppin State, the Bulldogs lost their last outing to Morgan State 77-63.
In the loss to the Bears, South Carolina State’s Damani Applewhite posted 17 points with seven rebounds, and Tashombe Riley added 12 points with six boards. Ian Kinard had 10 points with seven rebounds there also.
Over on the Howard side, they’re 2-15 this year. The Bison are on a five-game losing streak right now, falling to Harvard, Penn, MD Eastern, Bethune-Cookman and Norfolk State.
In the loss to the Spartans, Howard’s Nate Garvey put up 17 points with five assists and three rebounds, and Charles Williams had 14 points with six rebounds. Wayne Bristol chipped in 11 points there as well.
Howard is 8-20 ATS in their last 28 home games and 0-4 ATS in the last four after an ATS win. The Bison are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 overall and the under is 6-1 in their last seven home games.
Meanwhile, SC State is 2-6 ATS in their last eight Monday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in the last seven overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five road games.
On the whole, South Carolina State is scoring at a better clip than they did toward the beginning of the season, but they’re still largely inconsistent when it comes to offense. That said, the Bulldogs have 63 or fewer points in three of the last four games.
Howard is probably a good opponent right now for South Carolina State, as the Bison aren’t a great offensive team; they’ve put up 66 or fewer points in four of their last five outings. This should be a pretty competitive matchup, but I think SC State has a better shot at covering.
