The Monmouth Hawks and the Quinnipiac Bobcats meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the People’s United Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Monmouth Hawks will look to build on back-to-back wins and victories in 6 of their last 7 games following an 84-65 win over Canisius in their last outing. Ray Salnave led the Hawks with 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting with 4 threes, 7 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists while Samuel Chaput added 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 4 assists and a pair of steals. Mustapha Traore added 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Monmouth in the win while Melik Martin added 4 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Deion Hammond had just 7 points on 3 of 9 shooting but still leads Monmouth in scoring with an average of 15.3 points per game while Traore leads the Hawks in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds per game and Chaput leads the Hawks in assists with 3.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Monmouth is averaging 67.9 points per game on 41.1% shooting from the field, 35.1% from behind the arc and 73.3% from the foul line this season.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will also be looking to add on to their 6 wins in their last 7 games after making it 4 straight victories with a 67-56 win over Niagara last time out. Rich Kelly led the Bobcats with 21 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 threes while Kevin Marfo had 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a team-high 12 rebounds and Matt Balanc added 12 points with 10 rebounds for the two double-doubles for Quinnipiac in the win. Jacob Rigoni added 10 points and 7 rebounds to finish off the scoring in double figures for Quinnipiac in the win while Brendan Mcguire added a team-high 10 assists and Seth Pinkney had a team-high 8 rebounds. Kelly leads the Bobcats in scoring and assists with an average of 17.8 points and 4.2 assists per game while Marfo leads the Bobcats in rebounding with an average of 13.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Quinnipiac is averaging 71.8 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the field, 36.9% from behind the arc and 75.8% from the foul line this season.
Monmouth is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. Quinnipiac is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. The road team is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
This should be a great game between two of the best teams in the MAAC this season. However, Monmouth is being outscored by 9.3 points per game on the road this season, while Quinnipiac is outscoring opponents by 7.8 points per game at home and have looked really good to start conference play. I just think that Quinnipiac wins this game at home by at least three, so I’ll lay the bucket with the Bobcats who have been solid at home with a 5-1 SU and ATS mark this season.
