The Morehead State Eagles and Kentucky Wildcats face off on Wednesday in a college basketball showdown at Rupp Arena.
The Morehead State Eagles 2019 season was a disappointing one finishing with a 13-19 record and during conference play they went 7-11. This is an Eagles team that is bringing back only two of their five starters from last years squad but the hope is some of the young guys from last year can step up. This really isn't a squad that is filled with star players, so it’s going to take a balanced effort to find the success. The best player looks like it will be Ta’lon Cooper who finished last season averaging 7.0 points and 3.1 assists per game. The coaching staff has raved about his passing so Cooper should help open up the offense for everyone else.Guard Marcus Garrett has also transferred in and he should be the best defender on the team.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kentucky Wildcats who are young again but that doesn’t change the expectations surrounding this team. Eight of the nine players who scored a point for the Wildcats last year are not on the team anymore. A lot of this offseason for Kentucky was spent trying to get Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr eligible, and he has now been granted a waiver. Last season with Wake Forest, Sarr averaged 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. Five star freshman shooting guard BJ Boston is also expected to be an elite talent for this team and at the end of the year he will probably be the best player. Boston is dealing with a hand injury, but he is expected to be able to go in this game.
Morehead State is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games played on Wednesday. The under is 6-2 in Morehead State’s last eight games against the SEC. The under is 13-6 in Kentucky’s last 19 non-conference games.
It doesn’t matters how young Kentucky is, they are going to put on a show in this game. Look for Kentucky to run up the score, Morehead State will have no answer, and Kentucky will cover this spread.
