The Liberty Flames and Purdue Boilermakers face off on Wednesday in a college football showdown at the Titan Field House at the Space Coast Challenge.
The Liberty Flames had a big 2019 season finishing with a 30-4 record and during conference play they went 13-3 which won them the regular season crown. Even with all the success of the last couple of years, Liberty’s expectations won’t be as high this season. The problem for Liberty this season is four of their best players are gone, and they now go from a veteran led group to a really young squad. Last season, Liberty gave up only 53.8 points per game and there is going to be a focus on defense again this year. The best players back from last year’s squad are Darius McGhee and Elijah Cuffee. McGhee averaged 9.5 points and Cuffee averaged 7.0 points. The front court could be a problem this season for the team nad against a team like Purude, they are going to need some good front court play.
On the other side of this matchup is the Purdue Boilermakers who finished around .500 last season, but there are higher expectations for this season. Gone is Matt Harms and Nojel Eastern but an argument could be mad that this team is more talented. The good news for Purdue is Trevion Williams who averaged 11.5 points and Eric Hunter Jr is back after averaging 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Williams should have an even bigger role in this game and this season and if they are going to live up to expectations, he is going to be the reason why. One problem Purdue could have is their bench is very inexperienced and that could really cost them in this one.
Liberty is 8-0 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games. The over is 8-2 in Purdue’s last 10 games as a favorite. The over is 35-15-1 in Purdue’s last 51 neutral site games.
Liberty is a strong defensive team, but Purdue is going to get the pace up in this game, and that will push this number up. This total is too low, back the over.
