The Chattanooga Mocs and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels will meet up in college basketball action on Tuesday.
Chattanooga is coming off a disappointing season in 2018-19, going 12-20 overall and 7-11 in the Southern Conference. The Mocs weren’t able to change their luck in the SoCon Tournament, falling to East Tennessee State 68-64 in the first round to end their year.
Chattanooga did have a decent run toward the middle of the season last year, going 8-5 at one point, but they weren’t able to string together consecutive victories after that.
Over on the Eastern Kentucky side, they had a rough season as well, going 13-18 in 2018-19 overall. The Colonels finished in a four-way tie for sixth place with a 6-12 conference record.
Eastern Kentucky was not able to participate in the OVC Tournament due to tiebreakers, so they finished the year on yet another low note.
The Mocs are 4-0 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four road games. Chattanooga is 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 5-12-1 ATS in the last 18 versus the OVC.
Meanwhile, the Colonels are 5-0 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 5-1-2 ATS in their last eight non-conference games. Eastern Kentucky is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight versus the Southern and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall.
Last season, there were two levels of success in the Southern Conference, and Chattanooga was at the top of the lower tier, for whatever that’s worth. Trouble is, East Tennessee State—who finished one place above the Mocs—won twice as many games as Chattanooga.
As for Eastern Kentucky, they weren’t able to make much headway in conference play, and they went just 3-8 over their last 11 games. The good news is that the Colonels should find some additional stability with a returning coaching staff, but there’s not a whole lot of intrigue here. I’m going with the Colonels on the cover but staying away.
