Washington State Cougars Betting Preview

The Cougars started out the season with wins over Portland State, Texas Tech, Washington, and San Jose State before their first loss to Boise State. Washington State would recover with wins over Fresno State, Hawaii, and San Diego State in the next trio.

In the Utah State matchup last weekend, the Cougars scored 14 points in each of the final three quarters during a 49-28 blowout victory. John Mateer finished with 179 yards and four scores. Wayshawn Parker added 11 carries for 149 yards and two TDs to pace the rush. Kyle Williams caught three scores among his five grabs for 55 yards.

New Mexico Lobos Betting Preview

Over on the New Mexico side, they lost to Montana State, Arizona, Auburn, and Fresno State in their first quartet before a win over New Mexico State. The Lobos are 3-2 since then with wins over Air Force, Utah State, and San Diego State in their last five.

Back on Friday versus San Diego State, the Lobos posted 14 points in the first quarter along the way to a 21-16 win. Devon Dampier put up 175 pass yards and a score with 127 rushing yards tacked on. Eli Sanders managed 173 rush yards and two scores off 16 carries.

Washington State vs New Mexico Prediction

I might take a stab at New Mexico. The Lobos were a little spotty in their win over San Diego State last Friday but still got the win. New Mexico posted 300 rush yards among 475 total but went a tepid 5-of-11 on third-down tries. Defensively the Lobos gave up 26 first downs and 35:02 in time of possession but limited the damage on the scoreboard with just 3.9 yards per play.

As for Washington State, on Saturday they trounced a struggling Utah State team with 303 rushing yards (482 total), 28 first downs, and a 6-of-12 success rate on third-down tries. The defense came up with two takeaways and benefitted from 10 Aggies penalties. This weekend Washington State should be in control again, but if the Lobos can avoid mistakes I think they’ll have a reasonable cover shot.

Andrew Jett's Pick: New Mexico Lobos +13.5
