UConn got started this year with a pretty routine matchup versus Central Connecticut on August 30. The Huskies scored double-digit points in all four quarters (including 21 in the second alone) on the way to a 59-13 blowout win. Quarterback Joe Fagnano had 260 yards and three scores on 18-of-25 passing, also scoring a rush TD. Camryn Edwards led the rushing attack with 115 yards and a score off six toes, and Skyler Bell had a great day receiving with four grabs for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson Harper also caught five balls in the win, totaling 42 yards and a touchdown for himself as well.
In game two versus Syracuse, UConn remained competitive but ultimately fell short. The Huskers were up 17-6 going into the fourth quarter, then got outscored 14-3 from there and had to go to OT. When the dust settled, UConn had a 27-20 defeat. Fagnano threw for 259 yards on 24-of-43 passing. Tops in rushing was Jayden Brown with five totes for 72 yards and a TD. Bell was atop the receivers with a nifty 11 catches for 105 yards in the tight loss.
Over on the Delaware side, they got their season kicked off with a matchup against Delaware State. The Hens held an 11-point lead going into the fourth quarter and eventually won it 35-17. Nick Minicucci posted a 28-of-36 line for 251 yards and three scores while also leading the rush with nine totes for 44 yards and another touchdown. Jake Thaw was the top dog among the receivers with seven grabs for 92 yards and a TD, but Kyre Duplessis was right there with him on seven catches for 89 yards and a score.
Last Saturday in game two versus Colorado, Delaware was down by 10 points heading into the second half, eventually giving up points in every quarter during a 31-7 loss. Minicucci was 18-of-36 for 316 yards, one touchdown and one interception this time. Leading the receivers was Thaw with four catches for 85 yards, but Ja’Carree Kelly wasn’t too far behind with 83 yards.
Heading into Week 3, Jo’Nathan Silver leads Delaware for touchdowns (1) this season.
Connecticut Huskies Player Prop Facts
Heading into Week 3, Skyler Bell leads the FBS Independents for receptions (15) this season.
Delaware ranks 22nd among FBS teams for passing yards per game this season (301.5).
Delaware ranks T114th among FBS teams for 4th down conversion percentage against this season (100.0).
Connecticut ranks T14th among FBS teams for passing yards per game this season (331.0).
Connecticut ranks T16th among FBS teams for 4th down conversion percentage against this season (25.0).
I’m going to stick with UConn, but this should be a pretty interesting game overall. The Huskies did well in their opener versus an overmatched Central Connecticut team, generating 638 yards (388 passing), 9.0 yards per play, no turnovers and a smooth 12-of-16 rate on third-down conversions. The defense was great as well, giving up 257 yards (129 passing), 13 first downs and just 4.1 yards per play. Game two was a bit different though, despite UConn having a late lead. The D coughed up 460 yards (417 passing) in that one alongside 5.6 yards per play, but also had two takeaways and held the Orange to just 5-of-15 on third downs. The offensive numbers were pretty good (415 total yards) outside of third downs. UConn was successful on just five of 17 in that regard.
The good news for the Huskies is that they should match up pretty well versus Delaware. Provided they can get over last weekend’s tough loss, I like UConn to take care of business in a big way here.
