UCLA Bruins Betting Preview

The Bruins kicked off the season with a string of four losses, dropping games to Utah, UNLV, New Mexico and Northwestern before finally picking up a win over Penn State. UCLA would follow that up with wins over Michigan State and Maryland before a blowout road loss to Indiana. In that matchup on October 25, the Bruins gave up double-digit points in each of the first three quarters and fell behind quickly. The offense mustered just 201 total yards with 12 first downs and a 1-of-11 success rate on third-down conversion attempts in the defeat.

In their latest matchup on Saturday versus Nebraska, the Bruins were down 21-7 by the end of the first half and 28-14 going into the fourth quarter. After a cosmetic touchdown UCLA had a home loss 28-21 in the end. QB Nico Iamaleava had a 17-of-25 line for 191 yards and a couple of scores while also leading the rush with 86 yards on 15 totes. Rico Flores was the top receiver in the losing effort for the Bruins, tallying six grabs for 52 total yards.

Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview

Over on the Ohio State side, they’ve been a force this season. The Buckeyes have rattled off a string of victories so far, taking out Texas, Grambling State, Ohio, Washington, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Penn State over their first eight outings. In the Penn State win 38-14 at home on November 1, Ohio State scored points in every quarter during a 38-14 blowout. The offense gathered up 480 yards total with 8.7 yards per play, 22 first downs and 6-of-9 on third-down conversions in the victory.

In their latest showing on Saturday versus Purdue, Ohio State trailed entering the second quarter but then hit a 24-0 run ahead of the half. The Buckeyes added 10 more points in the final frame during a 34-10 road victory. QB Julian Sayin had a 27-of-33 line for 303 yards, one TD and one pick, while top rusher Bo Jackson had 75 yards on 14 totes. CJ Donaldson had two rush scores, and lead receiver Jeremiah Smith had 10 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown in the big road victory.

UCLA vs Ohio State Prediction

I’ll stick with Ohio State, but that’s a thick line. The Buckeyes didn’t have too many issues keeping Purdue in check during their most recent road win on Saturday, holding the Boilermakers to just 186 total yards, 4.2 yards per play, 13 first downs and 3-of-9 on third downs. The offense gained 473 yards on the other side with 30 first downs and 9-of-13 on third downs themselves. That gives the Buckeyes 34 or more points in five straight games—all big wins.
As for UCLA, they couldn’t quite catch a pretty good Nebraska team in a home loss over the weekend. The Bruins managed 348 total yards, 5.4 yards per play, 21 first downs and 8-of-14 on third downs in that one along with no turnovers. The defense gave up 361 yards and 20 first downs on the other side with no takeaways. UCLA hasn’t cracked 21 points in three straight games, and I don’t see that stat changing this weekend versus Ohio State.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes -31.5
