UAB Blazers Betting Preview

The Blazers have had a pretty rough year overall. UAB opened with a 2-1 run, taking a loss to Navy in between victories over Alabama State and Akron. Three straight losses came next versus Tennessee, Army and Florida Atlantic ahead of a win over Memphis. The Blazers would fall versus UConn, Rice and North Texas in the ensuing three games, though. That would give UAB a rough 3-7 run across their first 10 games this year.

Last weekend versus South Florida, the Blazers had a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter but got drilled on the scoreboard from there in a 48-18 blowout loss. QB Jalen Kitna was 20-of-36 for 230 yards and three picks. Isaiah Jacobs added 38 yards, and one TD on six carries, and Iverson Hooks had a nice day receiving with 10 catches for 146 yards.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane Betting Preview

Over on the Tulsa side, they’ve had a bit of a struggle this year as well. The Golden Hurricane were only able to win two of their first nine games. Those wins came over Abilene Christian and Oklahoma State. Otherwise it was losses to New Mexico State, Navy, Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina, Temple and Florida Atlantic. Since then however, Tulsa has been able to right the ship a bit with a couple of wins versus Oregon State and Army for a 4-7 overall record this year.

In the Army matchup last weekend, the Hurricane were in trouble with a 25-14 deficit heading into the fourth quarter. Tulsa hit a 12-0 run from there however, notching the improbable comeback road win 26-25. Baylor Hayes notched a 20-of-31 line for 267 yards and a TD, while Dominic Richardson rumbled for 203 yards and a score off 28 carries. Tops in receiving was Zion Steptoe with five catches for 76 yards in the victory effort for the Hurricane.

UAB vs Tulsa Prediction

I’m staying with Tulsa. The Hurricane shocked a middling Army team last weekend, thanks to 497 total yards by the offense. Tulsa also notched 230 rush yards, 7.0 yards per play, 26 first downs and 7-of-12 on third-down tries but did lose a couple of fumbles. On defense the Hurricanes gave up 311 total yards, 247 rush yards, 4.8 yards per play, 19 first downs and 6-of-13 on third-down attempts. That makes 26 or more points in four of the last five games (21 in the other) for Tulsa, so they’re scoring well these days.

As for UAB, they got drilled by a good South Florida team last weekend, giving up 544 yards, 9.2 yards per play and 24 first downs along the way. It was a sloppy game with the Blazers committing 10 of the 23 overall penalties. The three picks hurt as well. UAB has lost four straight and they’re giving up a ton of points lately.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Tulsa Golden Hurricane -8.5
