In this article we will formulate a Tarleton State vs Army prediction for this College Football game on Friday, August 29th at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week 1 matchup.

Tarleton State Texans Betting Preview

The Tarleton State Texans are 1-0 this year after they defeated Portland State by a score of 42-0 last week. Tarleton State led 14-0 at halftime and added 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters for the blowout victory. Tarleton State out gained Portland State by a total of 453-277, went 6-12 on third down, and won the turnover battle by a margin of 4-1. Victor Gabalis went 14-24 for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while Tre Page III rushed for 170 yards and two scores on just 15 carries. Cody Jackson led the way at WR for the Texans, as he caught four passes for 96 yards.

Last season, Tarleton State went 10-4 (6-2), which was tied for second in the UAC standings with Eastern Kentucky and Southern Utah. Tarleton State did play Baylor in 2024, which resulted in a 45-3 loss. The Texans picked up regular season wins against McNeese, Houston Christian, North Alabama, SE Louisiana, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, Austin Peay, West Georgia, and Central Arkansas, while losing to Baylor, Eastern Kentucky, and Abilene Christian. Tarleton State qualified for the FCS playoffs, where they beat Drake by a score of 43-29, but lost to South Dakota by a score of 42-31.

Army Black Knights Betting Preview

The Army Black Knights went 12-2 (8-0) last year, which was first in the AAC standings. Army had a fantastic season in 2024, as they won 11 of their first 12 games. The Black Knights beat Lehigh, FAU, Rice, Temple, Tulsa, UAB, ECU, Air Force, North Texas, UTSA, and Tulane, while losing to Notre Dame and Navy. Army went to the Independence Bowl, where they beat Louisiana Tech by a score of 27-6. The Army offense scored 31.1 points per game, which was 41st in the nation, while they allowed 15.5 points against per game, which was ranked fourth.

This year, Army will look to replace Bryson Daily, who was one of the better quarterbacks we have seen in recent memory for the Black Knights. Army also lost their top running back from last year, but the offensive line should be decent and the wide receivers will be good enough in limited use. The Army defense was elite last season and should be solid once again, but they did lose some valuable pieces from last year. If the secondary can fill the CB spots similar to last year, this Army team will be tough to matchup against.

Why the Army Black Knights will win

  • Army has won each of its last nine games against non-AP-ranked teams at Michie Stadium.

    Total Points Facts

    • Six of Army’s last seven games against non-FBS teams have gone OVER the total points line.

      Matchup/League Facts

      • Army ranked 2nd among FBS teams for Q2 opponent points per game last season (3.1).
      • Army ranked 2nd among FBS teams for H1 opponent points per game last season (6.6).

      Tarleton State vs Army Prediction

We saw Tarleton State line up against one division one program last year, which resulted in a blowout loss, and I think we could see something similar here. Army is going to run the ball all over this Texans defense and when they decide to pinch up, they will hit them with play action passes. I think Tarleton State is a very solid FCS program, but asking them to slow down this rushing attack and deal with a top five defense from last year is too much to ask. I know this is a big number, but take Army to cover.

      David Racey's Pick: Army -16.5
