A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for the St. Francis PA vs Buffalo game
Last year’s campaign wasn’t a great one for St. Francis. The Red Flash finished just 4-7 overall with a 2-4 Northeast Conference record. That result would put St. Francis PA ahead of only Mercyhurst and Stonehill in the standings. The Red Flash kicked things off with a 2-6 stretch over their first eight games, beating only Kent State and Delaware State—both in road matchups. Following wins over Stonehill and LIU, St. Francis PA finished with a loss to Mercyhurst on November 23.
Matched up against Louisiana-Monroe last Thursday in their 2025 opener, the Flash’s woes continued. St. Francis PA gave up points in every quarter (including 12 in the fourth) during a 29-0 shutout loss. QB Nick Whitfield went 9-of-16 for 36 yards and an interception, while Raphael Ekechi carried 10 times for 37 yards. Zachary Betts added two receptions for 16 yards in the defeat as well.
Over on the Bulls’ side, they ended up with a pretty darn good run in 2024. Buffalo posted a 9-4 record overall with a 6-2 run in the Mid-American Conference. That effort would put the Bulls behind only Miami-OH and Ohio in the conference standings. Buffalo was even able to dispatch No. 23-ranked Northern Illinois in September, marking only the second time the school had beaten a ranked opponent (and the first since 2008. In the Bahamas Bowl versus Liberty, Buffalo took a 26-7 victory on January 4 to finish the campaign in style.
The Bulls played Minnesota in their first matchup of the season. Despite trailing by just three points heading into the final quarter, Buffalo ended up falling 23-10. QB Ta’Quan Roberson threw for 107 yards and a TD on 12-of-20 passing, while Al-Jay Henderson led a feeble rush on 11 carries for 25 yards. Victor Snow was the team’s top receiver with five grabs for 67 yards and the touchdown.
I’m probably staying with Buffalo. The Bulls had a tricky road matchup versus Minnesota in their opener, and to their credit Buffalo stayed in the game most of the way. That said, the offensive numbers were pretty dismal. The Bulls amassed just 151 total yards (107 passing), 3.4 yards per play, eight first downs and a putrid 1-of-11 on third-down tries. Meanwhile the defense gave up 443 yards (290 passing) and 27 first downs alongside 9-of-16 on third down. It was a valiant effort, but ugly offensive numbers like that aren’t going to win any games.
As for St. Francis PA, they had an ugly offensive outing themselves in their blowout shutout versus Louisiana-Monroe. The Red Flash collected only 131 yards (50 passing), seven first downs, 2.8 yards per play and 2-of-12 on third-down tries. The defense held the Warhawks to just 5-of-12 on third downs but also surrendered a whopping 311 rush yards. St. Francis PA will likely post a better offensive effort here, but I don’t see them covering if Buffalo gets it going.
