Is Oregon the Real Deal?

On paper, Oregon really looks like the real deal, and they have basically dominated every one of their games this year. In the second game against Oklahoma State, Oregon scored 69 points while the defense gave up three points. In the last game against Northwestern, Oregon was able to secure the 34-14 victory. All 14 points for Northwestern were scored in the 4th quarter so it was a little closer than it showed. Dante Moore completed 16 of his 20 passes for 178 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Dirre Hill Jr also had a huge game on the ground finishing with 94 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Oregon on the season, is averaging 54 points while their defense is giving up 10 points per game. The offense is ranked 3rd while the defense is ranked 14th. In this game, Oregon needs the defense to really make another statement.

Why Oregon Will Beat Oregon State

  • Oregon has won each of its last 34 games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Oregon State has lost nine of its last 10 games.
  • Oregon State has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five September road games against AP-ranked teams.
  • Oregon has covered the spread in six of its last seven September games at Autzen Stadium.
  • Oregon State has lost the first half in each of its last four road games against non-conference opponents.

Awful Start for Oregon State

It has been an awful start for Oregon State so far this season and they are still looking for their first win. Two games ago against Fresno State, Oregon State was knocked off 36-27, and in the last game against Texas Tech, they were knocked off 45-14. At halftime, they were down 28-0 and the 14 points scored by the Beavers were in the 4th quarter. Maalik Murphy has been decent, but the turnovers have been an issue, and they need him to take better care of the ball here. Murphy in the last game threw for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The top rusher was Anthony Hankerson and he finished with 11 carries for 12 yards. Getting a running game going to take some of the pressure off is also going to be key.

Oregon State on the season is 18.67 points while their defense is giving up 38.13 points per game. The offense isn’t great, but their defense has been a major issue, and they need to find a way to play better defense. If the defense struggles here, this is going to be a long game.

Oregon State vs Oregon Prediction

Just because these teams aren’t in the same conference doesn’t mean they don’t hate each other still. It doesn’t matter if Oregon knows they are the much better team, they are going to try and give them a beatdown, and that’s exactly what they are going to do in this game. Oregon State’s defense is giving up 38.13 points per game, and that number is going to only raise here. Dante Moore is going to have a huge game here, and Oregon isn’t going to have any answer. Oregon might drop a 65 points here. This game is going to be over by halftime. Back Oregon to win this game and cover the spread.

Shane Mickle's Pick: Oregon -35.5
