Old Dominion Monarchs Betting Preview

Old Dominion lost to Indiana in their first outing this year, then hit a win streak over NC Central, Virginia Tech, Liberty and Coastal Carolina. Losses to Marshall and James Madison came next, then wins over App State and LA-Monroe. In the 31-6 win over the Warhawks on November 1, the Monarchs scored 17 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Old Dominion finished with 391 total yards, 5.8 yards per play and 20 first downs but went just 4-of-13 on third-down conversion attempts. The nine team penalties didn’t help either, but the Monarchs defense did a nice job on the other side in the win.

In their latest appearance versus Troy on November 13, the Monarchs posted another sharp win. Old Dominion was up 20-0 by the break, scoring in every quarter during a 33-0 result. QB Colton Joseph finished 10-of-20 for 147 yards and a score while also running in a pair of TDs. Tops in rushing was Devin Roche with 145 yards on 16 carries, and Tre Brown added five catches for 112 yards in the winning effort for Old Dominion.

Georgia Southern Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Eagles’ side, they went 2-2 over their first four games with wins over Jacksonville State and Maine after losses to Fresno State and USC. Georgia Southern would go 2-3 in their next five outings with losses to James Madison, Southern Miss and Arkansas State among wins versus Georgia State and App State. In the 25-23 win over App State on November 6, the Eagles put up points in every quarter but were outscored 14-3 in the fourth. The offense finished with 494 yards, 25 first downs and no turnovers, while the Eagles defense held the Mountaineers to just 4-of-14 on third-down tries during the tight victory.

Matched up against Coastal Carolina last weekend, Georgia Southern exited a wild first half with a 35-27 advantage. After scoring in every quarter—and giving up points in every quarter as well—Georgia Southern had a 45-40 win. JC French was 22-of-33 for 264 yards, two scores and a pick, but OJ Arnold did the bulk of the offensive work with 21 carries for a whopping 267 yards and two TDs. Camden Brown caught three scores among his five grabs for 133 yards in the victory effort as well.

Old Dominion vs Georgia Southern Prediction

I’ll stick with Old Dominion. The Monarchs are looking good these days and coming off a nice win over a decent Troy team. ODU held the Trojans to just 138 total yards, 2.4 yards per play, nine first downs and 2-of-13 on third-down tries—not to mention a couple of takeaways and zero points allowed. The offense had 503 total yards, including 351 on the ground. The third-down tries weren’t so great (5-of-15) but that’s about the only thing to complain about. The Monarchs are cooking during this three-game win streak.

As for Georgia Southern, they’re coming off a tight shootout win over Coastal Carolina and have now scored 24 or more points in five straight (a 3-2 run). This one’s going to be another tricky matchup.
