Northern Iowa Panthers Betting Preview

The 2024 season wasn’t the best for the Panthers. Northern Iowa ended up finishing just 3-9 overall with a rough 1-7 run in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Panthers stumbled to a second-to-last-place finish with that result, beating only Murray State in the standings. The season started off pretty well with wins over Valparaiso and St. Thomas, but Northern Iowa would lose their next nine games in a row before finally stopping the proverbial bleeding with a November 23 win over Indiana State.

In their 2025 opener last week versus Butler, Northern Iowa got the 2025 season off to a nice start. The Panthers were up by just three points by the break, then scored 21 unanswered points from there. Northern Iowa ended up scoring in every quarter during a 38-14 win. QB Matthew Schecklman logged 214 yards with four TDs on a tepid 15-of-25 passing, and Harrison Bey-Bule had 12 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown of his own. Leading the receivers was Tysen Kershaw with two grabs for 65 yards and a score, but JC Roque had a big impact on four catches for 62 yards and a TD as well.

Wyoming Cowboys Betting Preview

Over on the Cowboys’ side, they’re eager to put last year’s campaign into memory. Wyoming managed to go just 3-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play under new head coach Jay Sawvel. The Cowboys finished ahead of only Nevada in the standings with that mark. The year started on a 1-7 run with a lone win over Air Force on September 28. The final four games were markedly better though, as Wyoming carved out a 2-2 run with wins over New Mexico and Washington State (both on the road) bookending losses to Colorado State and Boise State.

This year the Cowboys kicked things off with a matchup versus Akron. In last Thursday’s game, Wyoming held a slim 3-0 lead by the final quarter. With the game’s lone touchdown coming afterward the Cowboys eventually took the hard-fought win 10-0. QB Kaden Anderson had 260 yards passing with one score and one interception. Sam Scott added 29 carries for 132 yards to pace the rushing attack, and Chris Durr had 190 yards and a score off his eight catches to lead the receivers in the victory.

Northern Iowa vs Wyoming Prediction

I’m probably going to take a stab on Northern Iowa. This should be a pretty interesting game overall, and it’ll give us a better idea as to where each team stands. The Panthers started fairly slowly in their win over Butler but to their credit Northern Iowa closed well against a team they looked to beat on paper. The Panthers have to hit the road for a trickier matchup here, though.

Wyoming beat Akron with defense in their opener victory, holding the Zips to just 228 yards (139 passing), 3.5 yards per play, 13 first downs and 3-of-15 on third-down conversions. Offensively the Cowboys gained 426 yards (260 passing) but had some stalled drives along the way. If the Panthers can throw up a good defensive effort here I think they’ll be okay.
