North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview

North Texas opened the season on a nice five-game win streak. The victories during that time were over Lamar, Western Michigan, Washington State, Army and South Alabama—then came a loss to South Florida. Since then, North Texas has hit another win streak, taking out UTSA, Charlotte, Navy, UAB, Rice and Temple in succession. That gives the Mean Green an 11-1 overall record across 12 games in the regular season.

In their last matchup versus Temple on November 28, the Mean Green came out of the gate with a dominant 35-7 first half. North Texas added 17 more points from there, scoring in every quarter during a 52-25 blowout win. Drew Mestemaker finished 20-of-24 for 366 yards and three scores while Caleb Hawkins rushed 25 times for 186 yards and four scores. Wyatt Young added 127 yards off six catches, and Cameron Dorner had four catches for 125 yards and a score of his own.

Tulane Green Wave Betting Preview

Over on the Wave’s side, they went 6-1 over their first seven games this year. The lone loss was to Ole Miss; otherwise it was wins over Northwestern, South Alabama, Duke, Tulsa, East Carolina and Army. Tulane would then lose to UTSA, but since then it’s been a four-game win streak over Memphis, Florida Atlantic, Temple and Charlotte. In total that gives the Wave a 10-2 record in the regular season this year.

Matched up against Charlotte on Saturday, Tulane was up 21-0 by the fourth quarter. The Green Wave tacked on another six points from there, eventually winning the game 27-0 in the end. Jake Retzlaff was 28-of-38 for 291 yards and two scores while also rushing in a pair of TDs. Jamauri McClure rushed 11 times for 69 yards and Anthony Brown-Stephens had nine receptions for 98 yards in the winning effort.

North Texas vs Tulane Prediction

I’m staying with North Texas. The Mean Green rolled right past Temple in their last outing, notching 605 yards on offense with 239 rush yards, 9.5 yards per play, 26 first downs and 6-of-9 on third-down tries. The only blemish for the offense was a couple of lost fumbles. North Texas gave up just 4.5 yards per play and 6-of-15 on third downs defensively in the blowout win. The Mean Green have been on an offensive tear pretty much all season. They’ve scored 31 or more points in every game, and 52 or more in three straight. They’ll be tough to keep up with on the scoreboard here.

As for Tulane, they didn’t have too many issues with a struggling Charlotte team in their last outing, but did cough up three turnovers in the shutout victory. The Green Wave will need to be sharp on both sides in order to contend with North Texas this weekend.

Andrew Jett's Pick: North Texas Mean Green -3
