New Mexico State Aggies Betting Preview

The Aggies started out their season with a 23-16 win over Southeast Missouri State, then hit a losing streak. The next five games were all defeats versus Liberty, Fresno State, Sam Houston, New Mexico, and Jacksonville State for a 1-5 record.

Back on October 15 in their last appearance, the Aggies were able to stop their skid. New Mexico State needed two overtimes to get there but ultimately came out on top 33-30. Parker Awad threw for 155 yards and a score. Topping the receivers was TJ Pride with four catches for 69 yards and the TD.

FIU Panthers Betting Preview

Over on the FIU side, they opened the year at 1-3 with a win over Central Michigan alongside losses to Indiana, Florida Atlantic, and Monmouth. After a win versus LA Tech, FIU lost to Liberty, UTEP, and Sam Houston in the next trio.

Last Tuesday versus Sam Houston, FIU couldn’t find the scoreboard until the fourth quarter in a tight loss 10-7. Chayden Peery went 7-of-12 for 58 yards and a TD. Eric Rivers caught the score among his three grabs for 42 yards. Shomari Lawrence carried eight times for 44 yards.

New Mexico State vs FIU Prediction

I’ll lean toward FIU I suppose. Probably not touching this one. The Panthers posted some pretty miserable offensive numbers versus a solid Sam Houston team in their last outing. FIU notched just 199 total yards (74 passing), 11 first downs, and a 2-of-13 rate on third-down tries. The good news is that the defense held up very well with 207 yards, 3.2 yards per play, and 13 first downs allowed.

As for New Mexico State, they put up 364 yards (204 passing) and 21 first downs in their double-OT win over LA Tech. The Aggies lost a couple of fumbles though, and only held the ball for 26:02 of game time. This weekend’s matchup could go a lot of different ways, but all things considered, I think FIU can power out the cover with a home push. Should be a good matchup regardless.

Andrew Jett's Pick: FIU Panthers -7.5
