Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

The Cornhuskers opened up the year on a pretty good run, with just one blemish in their first five outings. Nebraska kicked things off with three straight wins over Cincinnati, Akron and Houston Christian before falling 30-27 at home versus Michigan. The Cornhuskers followed that up with a bounce-back win over Michigan State 38-27, though. In that victory Nebraska managed only 261 total yards, 15 first downs and a 5-of-13 success rate on third-down tries but got a big lift from the defense on the other side.

In their latest matchup last weekend versus Maryland, the Cornhuskers were in trouble after three quarters, facing a 31-24 deficit. Nebraska stormed back in the fourth however, posting a 10-0 run on the way to a comeback win 34-31. QB Dylan Raiola was 20-of-29 for 260 yards, four scores and three picks, while top rusher Emmett Johnson carried 21 times for 176 yards. Nyziah Hunter was the team’s leading receiver with five catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns during the victory effort.

Minnesota Golden Gophers Betting Preview

Over on the Gophers’ side, they managed to carve out a 3-2 record over their first five outings. Minnesota beat Buffalo and Northwestern State ahead of a road loss versus California, then beat Rutgers 31-28 before a blowout loss 42-3 versus Ohio State. In that loss, the Gophers were only able to gain 162 yards on offense alongside 3.2 yards per play, 11 first downs and a rough 1-of-11 success rate on third downs. The defense gave up 474 yards and 21 first downs on the other side during the blowout.

Matched up against Purdue last weekend, the Gophers also trailed going into the fourth quarter with a 20-13 deficit. After a 14-0 run from there however, Minnesota had a 27-20 comeback win at home. QB Drake Lindsey managed a 21-of-45 line for 232 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Tops in rushing was Darius Taylor with 14 totes for 32 yards, and Taylor also led the receivers with six grabs for 67 yards. Lemeke Brockington caught a TD among his four grabs for 61 yards in the win as well.

Nebraska vs Minnesota Prediction

I’ll stay with Nebraska, but this should be a pretty interesting game regardless. The Cornhuskers had some trouble putting Maryland away last weekend, but everything worked out in a very important road victory. The three interceptions and 3-of-7 result on third downs certainly didn’t help the offense, but they ended up tallying 453 total yards, 7.7 yards per play and 23 first downs. The defense gave up 7-of-15 on third downs to Maryland, however the Terrapins’ eight penalties certainly helped the cause overall. It was a nice victory to keep a nice season going, but Nebraska has given up 27 or more points in three straight games now.

As for Minnesota, their defense came up pretty big against Purdue with four takeaways and 6-of-16 allowed on third downs. The Gophers have had their ups and downs this year; it wouldn’t be surprising to see them competitive this weekend, though. Should be a good game.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Nebraska Cornhuskers -6
