Montana State Bobcats Betting Preview

The Bobcats had a pretty great season in 2024, but their run ultimately ended in disappointment. The good news is that the Bobcats managed to go a nice 15-1 overall with a sterling 8-0 run in the Big Sky Conference. That effort placed Montana State firmly atop the standings, ahead of UC Davis, Idaho, Northern Arizona and Montana. Following a trio of victories through the NCAA Division I playoffs however, the Bobcats ran into North Dakota State in the championship game and ultimately fell in a tough outcome 35-32 on January 6.

Head coach Brent Vigen is back in 2025 for his fifth year at the helm with the Bobcats. He’ll have defensive coordinator Shawn Howe back for his second year, and we’ll get a new face at offensive coordinator with Pete Sterbick. That crew will have to deal with the usual bit of turnover, including Tommy Mellott (NFL Draft) and outgoing transfers like TE Rohan Jones (Arkansas), OL Connor Moore (Michigan State) and DB Andrew Powdrell (UNLV). A few interesting names have entered the program via transfer, including QB Justin Lamson (Stanford).

Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

Over on the Ducks’ side, they had a similarly great season in 2024 that also ended on a down note. Oregon made a lot of noise in a crowded and very difficult Big Ten last year, going 13-1 overall with a 9-0 run in conference matchups. The Ducks finished ahead of the nationally-ranked Penn State, Indiana, Ohio State and Illinois in the standings. After dispatching Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game on December 7, the Ducks faced off against Ohio State in their first game of the CFP. Despite having beaten the Buckeyes back on October 12, Oregon fell this time 41-21, ending their season in disappointment.

In head coach Dan Lanning’s fourth year in the role, the Ducks had to adjust to quite a significant amount of loss in the offseason. Oregon saw 10 players drafted into the NFL, including DT Derrick Harmon (Pittsburgh Steelers), OT Josh Conerly (Washington Commanders), TE Terrance Ferguson (Los Angeles Rams) and DE Jordan Burch (Arizona Cardinals). Five ex-Oregon players were picked up as undrafted NFL free agents as well. Long story short, this year’s team will look a lot different on the field.

Total Points Facts

  • Three of Oregon’s last four season openers have gone UNDER the total points line.

Montana State vs Oregon Prediction

I was going to stay with Oregon, but the line seems thick enough for the Bobcats to get in there. The Ducks have had a wealth of experience at the quarterback position in recent years with Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel under center. With those two gone however, it’ll be up to a relatively unproven Dante Moore guiding the offense. Moore showed quite a bit of inconsistency at UCLA in 2023 with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That said, he’ll also get an upgrade in support out on the field with the Ducks. The good news is that the schedule is pretty soft up front, so the entire offense will have plenty of time to find chemistry.

On the defensive side, they coughed up a truckload of points in their big games last year—109 combined to Ohio State and Penn State over a three-game span, in fact. Considering Oregon is replacing 15 combined starters, it’s tough to know how they’ll look this year. That said, the Ducks should have no problem keeping Montana State at bay but the line seems generous enough for a Bobcats cover.
