The Miami-Ohio Redhawks come into the 2026 season looking to build on a decent 2025 season where the Redhawks went 7-7 overall including 6-2 in MAC conference play. The Redhawks would fall to Western Michigan 23-13 in the MAC title game and would end up falling short in the Arizona Bowl against Fresno State 18-3. The problem is that the Redhawks don’t have a secure option at QB after Dequan Finn was forced to move on. Thomas Gotkowski got limited action and the hope is that he can develop further for Chuck Martin’s squad. Cade Yacamelli transfers in from Wisconsin to lead the charge in the Redhawk backfield while Keith Reynolds will help sustain the receiving corps. On defense, Malcolm McCain leads the linebacking crew for Miami-Ohio while Blayne Myrick transfers in after making 185 tackles and 14 TFLs for South Alabama in the last two years.

The Pitt Panthers come into the 2026 season looking to build on a solid mark in 2025, finishing the year at 8-5 including a 6-2 mark in ACC play. Pitt would end up getting an invite to the Military Bowl, where they would lose to East Carolina by a score of 23-17. Mason Heintschel takes over at QB for Pitt and showed a lot of arm strength and mental maturity in his game after throwing for 2,354 yards and 16 TDs. Ja’Kyrian Turner and WKU transfer La’Vell Wright make up the 1-2 punch in Pitt’s backfield as well. On defense, Isaiah Neal and Jimmy Scott are back on the d-line after combining for 8 sacks and 15 TFLs to lead the front seven.

I’m on Pitt in this one. I’m just not sold on Miami offensively and the Redhawks are a team that try to rely on their defense in a lot of non-conference spots. The lack of confidence at QB leaves a lot to be desired for Miami and I think Pitt is just the far better team in this matchup. I look for the Panthers to win this one 34-13, so I’ll lay the points with Pitt in this one.
