Long Island University Sharks Betting Preview

Long Island U didn’t play very well in head coach Ron Cooper’s third year last season. The Sharks would go just 4-8 overall with a middling 3-3 record in Northeast Conference play. LIU would land in fourth place with that run, behind Central Connecticut, Duquesne and Robert Morris in the standings. Long Island U was done in by a six-game losing streak at the beginning of the season. The final six games were much better though, as the Sharks accumulated a 4-2 record. LIU beat Stonehill, Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart and Wagner during that final stretch.

This year, the Sharks opened up their season versus Florida in an unenviable pairing. Long Island U didn’t have much hope in that one, giving up points in every quarter (including 38 in the first half alone) during a 55-0 blowout loss. Ethan Greenwood went just 3-of-6 for 21 yards passing, and Kameron Ingram led the rush with a measly 14 yards on four carries. Greenwood himself rushed 12 times but only gained six yards. Deion Richardson was the only receiver (among three) to catch more than one pass, leading the way on two grabs for 37 yards.

Eastern Michigan Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Eastern Michigan side, they didn’t have a great season last year either and couldn’t meet up to some pretty manageable preseason expectations. The Eagles finished at 5-7 overall with a 2-6 run in the Mid-American Conference. Eastern Michigan was ahead of only Central Michigan, Ball State and Kent State by season’s end. The good news is that EMU started out at 5-2 with losses to only Washington and Miami-OH. The bad news is that they closed with losses to Akron, Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo and Western Michigan in the final five games.

The Eagles kicked off the year with a matchup on the road versus Texas State. Eastern Michigan wasn’t too far behind at halftime, trailing 24-17. The second half was another story however, as EMU eventually fell 52-27. Quarterback Noah Kim had 248 yards and a score on 23-of-34 passing, and Dontae McMillan had nine carries for 78 yards. Terry Lockett caught five balls for 62 yards to lead the receivers in the defeat.

LIU vs Eastern Michigan Prediction

I’ll stay with Eastern Michigan but I’m probably not touching this one. There’s not a lot to get excited about here with both teams coming off rough opener losses. In any case, the Eagles gave up a truckload of offense to Texas State in their defeat. The Bobcats gained 606 total yards (392 rushing), 9.2 yards per play, 30 first downs and 7-of-10 on third-down tries. Conversely EMU had 391 yards (248 passing) with 23 first downs and went just 6-of-15 on third downs.

Granted, Eastern Michigan should have a much easier time keeping LIU’s offense in check. The numbers are skewed against Florida, but the Sharks managed just 86 offensive yards in their opener. This second game won’t be so bad but I still think EMU covers.
