James Madison opened their season with a 45-10 win over Weber State, but they lost 28-14 against Louisville in their second game. The Dukes won the next 11 games, including the Sun Belt Title game against Troy by a score of 31-14. James Madison went to the College Football Playoff, but lost to Oregon by a score of 51-34 in the first round. JMU scored 31+ points in seven of their last eight games and their defense was elite prior to that CFP loss. The Dukes scored 37.1 points per game last year, while they allowed 18.4 points against per game on defense. 

This season, James Madison will have Billy Napier as the head coach, but he has big shoes to fill. The Dukes have a quarterback competition, but whoever gets the nod won’t have much experience. James Madison should have some good running backs and the O-Line should be solid, but the receivers are an unknown. On defense, JMU lost a lot of production from last season, but the front seven is expected to be decent, while the secondary has question marks.

James Madison will look to follow up last year’s CFP run with another solid season, but they will have a lot of new faces on the roster this year. The Dukes have a very good head coach in Billy Napier, but it could take them a few games to get going. Liberty is looking for a bounce back after a terrible 2025, but they also have quarterback questions.
