In this article we will formulate an Eastern Michigan vs Texas State prediction for this College Football game on Saturday, August 30th at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos, Texas. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week 1 matchup.

Eastern Michigan Eagles Betting Preview

The Eastern Michigan Eagles went 5-7 (2-6) last year and they finished tied for ninth in the MAC standings with Central Michigan and Ball State. Eastern Michigan opened the season with a 5-2 record, but they lost their last five games to miss out on a bowl game. The Eagles picked up wins against UMass, Jacksonville State, St. Francis, Kent State, and Central Michigan, while they lost to Washington, Miami (OH), Akron, Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, and Western Michigan. EMU really had issues on defense, as they allowed at least 26 points in seven of their last eight games. The Eagles scored 25.9 points per game, which was ranked 83rd, while they allowed 27.9 points against per game, which was ranked 86th.

This season, Eastern Michigan will have a new quarterback, which will most likely be Noah Kim, who previously played at Michigan State and Coastal Carolina. The Eagles should have a solid offensive line, but they do have questions at running back and wide receiver, which they tried to address through the portal. On defense, Eastern Michigan has to be better, as they were one of the worst units in the conference. The Eagles lost a lot of production from last season, but that might be ok, as they try to find some improvement.

Texas State Bobcats Betting Preview

The Texas State Bobcats were 8-5 (5-3) last season and they finished tied for second in the SBC West standings with Arkansas State and South Alabama. Texas State had a very solid season, but they never won more than two games in a row and lost three games by six points or fewer. The Bobcats defeated Lamar, UTSA, Troy, Arkansas State, ULM, Southern Miss, and South Alabama, while they lost to Arizona State, Sam Houston, Old Dominion, Louisiana, and Georgia State. Texas State went to the First Responder Bowl, where they defeated North Texas by a score of 30-28. The Bobcats scored 36.5 points per game last year, which was ranked 7th in the nation, while they allowed 24.5 points against per game, which was ranked 61st.

This year, Texas State has a few different options at quarterback and two of them have a good amount of experience. The Bobcats return their second leading rusher from last year and they dipped into the portal for help at receiver. On defense, Texas State was pretty inconsistent last season, but it was more good than bad. Texas State’s defensive line should be solid, but the linebackers and secondary are mostly new, which makes me think it may take a game or two for them to settle in.

Eastern Michigan vs Texas State Prediction

Eastern Michigan comes into this game as a pretty big underdog, but I think they have a chance to keep this game close. We saw the Eagles play very well in the non-conference last year, beating Jacksonville State and UMass, while playing a decent game against Washington. I think both defenses are going to struggle and we may be in for a shootout, but I think the EMU offensive line will be a big difference maker. Take the Eagles with the points.

David Racey's Pick: Eastern Michigan +13.5
