The Buffaloes have five games in the books so far, and they were able to maintain a .500 record across the first quartet. The losses in those four came 27-20 versus Georgia Tech in the opener and 36-20 against Houston in game three. Otherwise it was wins over Delaware 31-7 and Wyoming 37-20 in that time. In the Wyoming game, the Buffaloes managed 21 points in the second quarter alone. Colorado’s offense generated 497 yards total (304 passing), 8.4 yards per play and 23 first downs while the defense held the Cowboys to just 5-of-13 on third-down conversion attempts.
In their Saturday evening matchup with BYU, Colorado carried a 14-10 lead into the second half but couldn’t hang on in the end during a tough home loss 24-21. QB Kaidon Salter was 11-of-16 for 119 yards, one TD and one pick. Tops in rushing was Micah Welch with 67 yards off 11 carries, and Joseph Williams topped the receivers with 56 yards from five catches.
Over on the TCU side, things were going well over their first three games of the season. The Horned Frogs came out of the gate strong, beating North Carolina 48-14 and Abilene Christian 42-21 in the first two games. The SMU matchup was a victory as well; TCU took that one 35-24 in the end. The Frogs scored points in every quarter during that win (and gave up points in every quarter as well), posting 517 total yards (379 passing) 6.7 yards per play and 24 first downs on offense. The TCU defense gave up 384 yards (290 passing) and 4-of-13 on third downs on the other side.
Matched up against Arizona State last Friday, the Frogs took their first loss of the season. TCU was up 24-17 by the end of the third quarter but then gave up 10 unanswered points in the final frame for a tough 27-24 road loss. QB Josh Hoover was 20-of-32 for 242 yards and two interceptions, while Trent Battle carried nine times for 30 yards and a score. Joseph Manjack was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 83 yards in the loss.
Heading into Week 6, Eric McAlister ranks 8th amongst qualified players for Yards Per Reception (24.6) this season.
Colorado Buffaloes Player Prop Facts
Heading into Week 6, Kaidon Salter leads Colorado for touchdowns (4) this season.
TCU ranks 9th among FBS teams for 3rd down conversion percentage this season (57.7).
TCU ranks 12th among FBS teams for passing yards per game this season (320.8).
Colorado ranks 113th among FBS teams for time of possession per game this season (27:38).
Colorado ranks 111th among FBS teams for yards allowed per game this season (404.8).
I’ll stay with TCU. The Frogs need to get back to business here and power out a dominant win—and I think they will. TCU had a rough fourth quarter in the Arizona State loss, eventually posting just 10 rushing yards, 15 first downs, 5-of-12 on third-down tries, three turnovers and eight penalties. The defense had a hard time getting off the field and gave up 498 total yards—207 of those being on the ground—with 6.0 yards per play and 25 first downs. It wasn’t the Frogs’ finest hour, to put it mildly. That said, TCU has scored 35 or more points in each of their three wins and shouldn’t have too many issues putting up points on Saturday.
As for Colorado, they stood tall on defense when it mattered last weekend versus BYU (3-of-11 on third downs) but also gave up 208 rushing yards and 27 first downs alongside a pretty tepid offensive outing. TCU is going to be another tough opponent.
