In this article we will formulate a Coastal Carolina vs Virginia prediction for this College Football game on Saturday, August 30th at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week 1 matchup.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers went 6-7 (3-5) in 2024 and they finished tied for fifth in the SBC East standings with Appalachian State. Coastal Carolina started last year with three straight wins, but they lost six of their last eight to finish below .500. The Chanticleers picked up wins against Jacksonville State, William & Mary, Temple, Old Dominion, Appalachian State, and Georgia State, while they lost to Virginia (43-24), James Madison, Louisiana, Troy, Marshall, and Georgia Southern. Coastal Carolina did go to the Myrtle Beach Bowl, but they lost by a score of 44-15 against UTSA. The Coastal offense scored 28.7 points per game last year, which was ranked 61st, while they allowed 31.6 points against per game, which was 108th.

This year, Coastal Carolina will have a new quarterback after losing Vasko from last season, but the good news is that the offensive line is one of the best pass protection units in the conference. The Chanticleers do have to replace their running backs from 2024, but their top pass catcher returns and they did work in the portal at the receiver position. On defense, Coastal Carolina needs to show a lot of improvement from last year, but they brought in a bunch of help from the portal. Coastal should be better in the front seven, but their secondary is a question mark.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

The Virginia Cavaliers were 5-7 (3-5) last season and they finished tied for 10th in the ACC standings with NC State, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina. Virginia opened the 2024 season with a 34-13 over Richmond and they won four of their first five games, but they lost six of their last seven to miss out on a bowl game. The Cavaliers picked up wins against Richmond, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina (43-24), Boston College, and Pittsburgh, while they lost to Maryland, Louisville, Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, SMU, and Virginia Tech. Virginia allowed at least 33 points in five of their last six games, which didn’t give them much of a chance to win. The Cavaliers scored 22.7 points per game in 2024, which was ranked 107th in the nation, while they allowed 28.8 points against per game, which was 94th.

This season, Virginia will have Chandler Morris under center, who was great at throwing the ball with North Texas. The Cavaliers have plenty of question marks along the offensive line, but they have two very good running backs if they can find some room. UVA did lose their top receiver from last season, but they found some help in the portal and should be a solid group. On defense, Virginia was not very good last year and their corners are a question mark coming into this season, but the group should be better overall in 2025.

    Coastal Carolina vs Virginia Prediction

These two teams met last season in the non-conference part of the schedule as well, with Virginia winning by a score of 43-24. Virginia should be able to move the ball on this Coastal defense, but the UVA offensive line is definitely a potential issue. On the other side, Coastal will be breaking in a new quarterback and the running game may take some time to develop. This should be a solid game with plenty of fireworks and while I am worried about Coastal’s offense, I have faith they will score 24+ on this UVA defense. Take the over here.
