Charleston Southern Buccaneers Betting Preview

Charleston Southern couldn’t quite reach the .500 mark in 2025. The Buccaneers would end up going 5-7 overall with a 4-4 run in the OVC-Big South games. With that effort, Charleston Southern finished below Tennessee Tech, TN-Martin, Gardner-Webb and Lindenwood in the standings. The Buccaneers finished off the season on a nice run though, going 4-1 in their last five outings.

The Bucs opened up their 2026 year versus Lindenwood on August 27. In that one Charleston Southern managed to post 14 points in the fourth quarter and make a game of it but ultimately fell short 20-17. QB Lek Powell had an 18-of-32 line for 208 yards, two scores and a pick. KD Dorsey caught three balls for 46 yards as the leading receiver.

Georgia Southern Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Georgia Southern side, they were able to bag a winning record and a bowl berth last season in a pretty solid overall year. The Eagles didn’t quite reach their preseason expectations though, going 7-6 overall and a tepid 4-4 in Sun Belt games. Georgia Southern landed behind James Madison, Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina in the East Division but did get a win in the Birmingham Bowl 29-10 over Appalachian State.

In the 2026 season, Georgia Southern will have a lot of turnover to contend with. Former LSU and Texas A&M QB Max Johnson will help guide the new squad, and he’ll have some nice-looking transfers like Ashton Hollins (Illinois) to go along with a few returners like Taylor Bradshaw. In all, Georgia Southern will have 46 newcomers (24 transfers and 22 freshmen) on the team.

Charleston Southern vs Georgia Southern Prediction

I’ll lean toward Charleston Southern but I’m staying away. The Buccaneers posted 315 total yards (208 passing) with 19 first downs and two turnovers in their loss to Lindenwood. Charleston Southern’s defense gave up 312 yards (142 passing) and 9-of-17 on third downs (with zero takeaways) on the other side. It wasn’t the most encouraging performance, let’s put it that way.

As for Georgia Southern, they’re going to be a completely new team in 2026, for better or worse. On paper the team does boast some key names, and specifically they’ll have to get better on defense. New defensive coordinator Mike Mutz (Stephen F. Austin) will have his hands full, but there are also a few big contributors around like MJ Stroud, Brandon Tyson and Tracy Hill.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Charleston Southern Buccaneers +25.5
