Central Michigan Chippewas Betting Preview

The Chippewas opened the season on a 3-3 run through their first six, beating San Jose State, Wagner and Eastern Michigan along with losses to Pitt, Michigan and Akron. Next came wins over Bowling Green and UMass ahead of a loss to Western Michigan. In that 24-21 outcome on November 1, the Chippewas were outscored 17-7 in the second half. Central Michigan generated 240 total yards on offense with 55 rush yards and just 13 first downs—not to mention the pair of turnovers in the losing effort.

In their latest appearance versus Buffalo back on November 12, the Chippewas got back into the win column. Central Michigan scored points in every quarter (including double-digits in the last two) in a 38-19 finish. Joey Labas finished with an 18-of-24 line for 247 yards, two scores and two picks. Trey Cornist had 62 yards on 10 carries, and Marcus Beamon had 29 yards with a rush score. Leading receiver Langston Lewis had six catches for 118 yards and a TD.

Kent State Golden Flashes Betting Preview

Over on the Kent State side, they kicked things off with a win over Merrimack then lost to Texas Tech, Buffalo, Florida State and Oklahoma from there. The next four featured wins over UMass and Bowling Green mixed with losses to Toledo and Ball State. In the 17-13 result versus the Cardinals, Kent State posted 14 first downs, 212 pass yards and 301 total yards. The 10 penalties for 78 yards didn’t help the Flashes’ cause either.

In their most recent appearance on November 11 versus Akron, Kent State got back into the win column. It took overtime to get there however, as the Flashes emerged victorious 42-35 in the end. QB Dru DeShields finished with 317 yards and a whopping five touchdowns while lead rusher Gavin Garcia had 39 yards and a score off seven carries. Tops in receiving was Da’Realyst Clark with an 89-yard TD score. Dashawn Martin had four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Flashes as well.

Central Michigan vs Kent State Prediction

I’ll stay with the Chippewas I suppose. Central Michigan didn’t have a ton of trouble versus a decent Buffalo team in their last outing, thanks mostly to a strong defensive presence. The Chippewas managed 398 yards allowed with 19 first downs and 7-of-18 on third-down tries but also notched five takeaways (three fumble recoveries) in the win. The offense had a couple of picks and went just 2-of-10 on third downs themselves but also had 6.1 yards per play and 358 total yards in the end. Central Michigan has 21 or more points in seven straight games now, winning five of those outings.

As for Kent State, they powered out a weird OT win versus Akron in their last outing. The Flashes put up just 13 first downs and 57 rush yards in that one, giving up 33 first downs and 530 total yards on the other side. If Kent State can keep up that sort of offensive onslaught here we should have a pretty entertaining game overall. I like CMU to power it out in the end, though.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Central Michigan Chippewas -7
