The Bryant Bulldogs and New Mexico State Aggies meet Saturday in college football action at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Here’s a Bryant vs New Mexico State Prediction. This article will include a Bryant vs New Mexico State Pick.

Bryant Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bryant Bulldogs won two games last season and enter year seven under coach Chris Merritt.

Brennan Myer returns at quarterback after throwing for 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Dylan Kedzior should get more carries after 425 yards and two touchdowns on 91 carries, while Aldrich Doe returns after 21 catches and 1 touchdown. Bryant returns two offensive linemen, while Northwestern State transfer Brayden Staggs should slide into a starting role. There are questions at wide receiver with the lost production, but there’s enough here to be a productive offense, especially with another year under offensive coordinator Ben McKaig.

Defensively, Lonnie Rice returns after 36 tackles, while Olatunde Mkparu had 34 tackles and two pass deflections. Sean Hunt had 29 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Beau Shugarts had 23 tackles. Michael Otty is one of the best defensive linemen in the CAA. This Bryant defense has experience and is led by defensive coordinator Anthony Barese who is entering his sixth year with the program.

New Mexico State Aggies Betting Preview

The New Mexico State Aggies won three games last season and enter the second year under coach Tony Sanchez. New Mexico State has won three or fewer games in five of its last seven seasons.

New Mexico State has a new offensive coordinator in David Yost, who comes over from FIU. Fresno State / Montana transfer Logan Fife takes over at quarterback, and he has 1,600 yards and six touchdowns for his FBS career. Cal transfer Kadarius Calloway will get the bulk of the carries at running back, while receiver TJ Pride is coming off a solid season with 34 receptions. New Mexico State also added Utah running back Dijon Stanley, who should see an expanded role. There are a lot of new faces on this New Mexico State offense, but there’s talent, and it could be intriguing if things come together.

Defensively, New Mexico State gets a second year of defensive coordinator Joe Morris. Tyler Martinez returns after leading the Aggies with 94 tackles, while Sone Aupiu had 55 tackles and 5 pass deflections. Dakerric Hobbs had 6 pass deflections and Nick Session had 30 tackles and 3 pass deflections. There’s some all C-USA potential on this New Mexico State defense, and Davidson transfer Josiah Jackson brings experience on the defensive line.

New Mexico State hasn’t done much over the last few years, but this is a season the Aggies could surprise if all of the new faces come together. New Mexico State is a sleeper this season in the CUSA.

Why the New Mexico State Aggies will win

  • New Mexico State has covered the spread in five of its last six home games against non-FBS teams.

Why the Bryant Bulldogs will win

  • New Mexico State has lost seven of its last eight games in August.
  • New Mexico State has failed to cover the spread in each of its last six season openers.

New Mexico State Aggies Player Prop Facts

  • TJ Pride led New Mexico State for receiving yards (374) last season.

Bryant vs New Mexico State Prediction

This is the first time in two years where New Mexico State is a double-digit favorite. It’s for good reason, as New Mexico State has an accomplished quarterback who should jumpstart the offense, while the defense has legit potential as well. If everything goes well, New Mexico State should sneakily push for a bowl appearance. Bryant has question marks on both sides of the ball and just doesn’t have the depth to compete with FBS competition. I’ll take New Mexico State in a comfortable home win.

Randy Chambers's Pick: New Mexico State Aggies -19.5
