Big Time Test for Arizona State

Arizona State has already lost a game against a Power 5 conference team, and if they lose this game, this season could already be quickly off the rails. Two games ago against Mississippi State, Arizona State scored only 20 points, and they ended up losing by four points. In the last game against Texas State, the offense put up 34 points while the defense gave up only 15 points. Sam Leavitt has been a bit inconsistent and he completed 15 of his 25 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Raleek Brown also ran wild and put up 144 yards and a touchdown and 12 carries.

Arizona State on the season, is averaging 30.67 points while their defense is giving up 19.33 points per game. The offense is ranked 66th while the defense is ranked 58th. In this game the defense is going to need to be good. If the defense struggles, this is going to be a very long game.

Why Arizona State Will Beat Baylor

Arizona State has won eight of its last nine games against conference opponents.
Arizona State has covered the spread in eight of its last nine games against conference opponents.
Baylor has failed to cover the spread in six of its last seven September games at McLane Stadium.
Baylor has lost the first half in seven of its last nine games against conference opponents at McLane Stadium.

Big Time Test for Baylor

This is a big time test for Baylor, who also comes into this game with a 2-1 record overall. In the first game of the season, Baylor lost to Auburn 38-24, but since that point it’s been back to back wins. Against SMU, it took overtime, but they were able to secure the 48-45 victory. In the last game against Samford, it was a bit more comfortable, and they secured the 42-7 victory. Sawyer Robertson has been putting up numbers that could put him in the Heisman Conversation if Baylor wins enough games. Against Samford, he completed 23 of his 37 passes for 211 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Baylor on the season, is averaging 38 points while their defense is giving up 19.33 points per game. The defensive stats might look a little better than they actually are, and in this game, they are going to need the defense to be a whole lot better. The offense is ranked 66th while the defense is ranked 58th.

Why Baylor Will Beat Arizona State

Baylor has won 10 of its last 11 September home games against non-AP-ranked teams.
Arizona State has lost five of its last six road games in September.
Baylor has covered the spread in four of its last five home games against conference opponents.

Arizona State vs Baylor Prediction

This could end up being one of the highest-scoring games of the entire weekend. Baylor and Arizona State are both offenses that are good, but I am going to really key in here on the Baylor. I really like what I have seen out of Sawyer Robertson, and he’s going ot have a huge game here. The Baylor defense we know has issues against quality teams and that again will be an issue. Sam Leavitt is also going to look like one of the best quarterbacks in all of the country, and he is going to be dicing up the Bears. This is going to be a close battle with both offenses running up the score. Back the over.

Shane Mickle's Pick: Over 59.5
