The Samford Bulldogs and the Florida Gators meet in week 2 college football action from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday night. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Samford vs. Florida prediction.

Samford Recap

The Samford Bulldogs come into this one looking to bounce back from a season-opening 38-29 loss to West Georgia in their last game. After this game, Samford heads home to take on Alabama State.

Bulldogs Edged Out By West Georgia

Quincy Crittendon threw for 302 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception on 24 of 41 passing while also rushing for a team-high 95 yards and 2 TDs. Micah Kelly added 40 rushing yards while Brendan Jenkins added 4 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown and Iaan Cousin chipped in a team-high 5 grabs for 77 yards.

Why the Samford Bulldogs will win

  • Florida has lost each of its last six games.
  • Florida has failed to cover the spread in each of its last six games against non-conference opponents.
  • The road team has covered the spread in each of Florida's last three games.

Florida Recap

The Florida Gators come into this one looking to bounce back after taking one on the chin in a season-opening 41-17 loss to Miami. After this game, Florida will welcome Texas A&M to town.

Gators Throttled By Miami In Loss

Graham Mertz threw for 91 yards and an interception on 11 of 20 passing while DJ Lagway tossed for 31 yards and a pick on 3 of 6 passing. Montrell Johnson Jr. added 106 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries while Eugene Wilson III had 7 receptions for 50 yards and Elijhah Badger added 3 grabs for 43 yards. On defense, Grayson Howard added a team-high6 total tackles while Tyreak Sapp had a sack and Shemar James chipped in an interception.

Why the Florida Gators will win

  • Florida has won each of its last nine September home games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Florida has covered the spread in six of its last eight games against non-FBS teams.

Samford vs. Florida Prediction

I’m on the under here. I don’t think we see a ton of scoring from Samford here, but this also feels like a clear sandwich spot for me with the Florida Gators. A bit of a lull spot after their beating at the hands of Miami with a lookahead to Texas A&M next week, one has to wonder if this game has Florida’s full attention both in game and in the practice leading up to this game. I think this is a tricky spot, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Florida covered or didn’t either way. Give me the under here.
