The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will fly out to Greenville to meet the East Carolina Pirates in AAC play this weekend from Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on ESPN+.  The Tulsa/ECU series dates back to their time in Conference USA, and both programs have taken eight matchups apiece. Tulsa Golden Hurricane Preview

Tulsa fell to 3-8 after losing to North Texas at home, 35-28. The Golden Hurricane dropped their third straight game by one score, and they’ll attempt to get over the hump on final time this weekend. The Tulsa offense is scoring 22.9 ppg, while passing for 196.3 ypg, rushing for 183.8  ypg, and converting 44.4% of their third downs.

Tulsa Player Notes

• Kirk Francis starts for Tulsa, and after passing for 251 yards and three scores in the loss to North Texas, he’s up to 670 yards with four touchdowns to two interceptions thru three starts.

• Fort Worth native Anthony Watkins gained 115 yards against the Mean Green, and he leads the Golden Hurricane in rushing yards (783). 

• Senior wideout Kamdyn Benjamin has come alive with eight catches in back-to-back games, and he leads Tulsa in receptions (41) and receiving yards (584).

• The Tulsa defense is allowing 34.4 points per game.

East Carolina Pirates Preview

East Carolina dropped to 2-9 after losing to Navy in Annapolis, 10-0. The Pirates were completely bottled up by the Midshipmen in a battle of sea mascots, and they’ll look to bounce back here in their home finale. The ECU offense is scoring 16.5 ppg, while passing for 162.1 ypg, rushing for 103.2 ypg, and converting 30.9% of their third downs.

ECU Player Notes

• Alex Flinn starts behind center for ECU, and after struggling against Navy with 155 yards and two picks, he’s passed for 1,374 yards with four touchdowns to ten interceptions. 

• Junior back Rahjai Harris hasn’t had much room to run as of late, but he leads the team with 340 rushing yards.

• Freshman wideout Chase Sowell caught six passes in the loss to Navy,  and he leads ECU in receptions (42) and receiving yards (514). 

• The ECU defense has allowed 21.8 points per game.

 

Tulsa vs East Carolina Trends

• TUL is 4-7 against the spread, with a 4-7 O/U record. 

• ECU is 5-6 ATS, with a 3-8 over/under record.

Tulsa and East Carolina will face off in a battle of conference doormats this weekend, and with it being hard to vouch for either school here, leaning on the home environment could be a route to go here. The Golden Hurricane have dropped six straight games, and with Greenville still remaining a tough place to play, ECU fans could be in for a good weekend. The push occurring is very realistic for this one, so honestly play it safe with East Carolina’s ML here, and keep the Under in mind with both schools visibly struggling.
