Eastern Michigan Preview
The Eastern Michigan Eagles are 5-6 (3-4) this year after they defeated Akron in double overtime by a score of 30-27 last week. Eastern Michigan trailed 17-14 late in the fourth, but they tied the game with 10 seconds left and managed to win in double overtime. The Eagles recorded 315 total yards and allowed Akron to convert 12-19 third downs in the game. Eastern Michigan had lost their previous three games to Toledo, Western Michigan, and NIU. The Eagles offense is scoring 20 points per game with 160.2 passing yards per game and 104.9 rushing yards per game, while going 35.6% on third downs. Austin Smith has thrown for 1,634 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions for the Eagles this season. Samson Evans has rushed for 508 yards and 11 scores, while Tanner Knue has caught 48 passes for 472 yards and three touchdowns. The EMU defense is allowing 25.2 points against per game this season.
The Buffalo Bulls are 3-8 (3-4) this season after they lost to Miami (OH) by a score of 23-10 in their last game. Buffalo trailed 10-3 at halftime and they only trailed 13-10 in the fourth quarter, but Miami was able to pull away. The Bulls were out gained by a total of 326-278 and turned the ball over two times in the game. Buffalo has also lost to Ohio and Toledo during this three game losing streak. The Buffalo offense is averaging 21.6 points per game with 186.3 passing yards per game and 130.9 rushing yards per game, while going 35.1% on third downs. Cole Snyder has thrown for 1,974 yards, 13 touchdowns, and nine interceptions for the Bulls this season. Ron Cook Jr. has rushed for 566 yards and five touchdowns, while Marlyn Johnson has caught 36 passes for 415 yards and four scores. The Buffalo defense is giving up 27.7 points against per game this year.
Eastern Michigan was lucky to get the win last week, as they played pretty poorly against one of the worst teams in the FBS. The Eagles really struggled to get off of the field on third down against a really bad Akron offense. Buffalo’s offense has only scored 33 points in their last three games, while allowing 74 points against. Both of these teams have had their struggles, but Eastern Michigan is still playing for bowl eligibility, as they only need one more win. I think Eastern Michigan is going to be the more focused team here and I like them with the points.
