The UConn Huskies will make the trip down to Harrisonburg to meet the James Madison Dukes this weekend from Bridgeforth Stadium on ESPN+.

Connecticut Huskies Preview

UConn dropped to 1-8 after falling to Tennessee in Knoxville, 59-3. The Huskies served as no match for the SEC-powered Vols, and they’ll look to shock the world this weekend with an upset of JMU. The Connecticut offense is scoring 17.9 ppg, while passing for 185.4 ypg, rushing for 123.8 ypg, and converting 37.3% of their third downs.

UConn Player Notes

Ta’Quan Roberson wasn’t terrible against Tennessee, going 24/40 for 218 yards, but he did toss a pair of interceptions. The junior quarterback hasn’t been set up for success well this season, and he’ll now face another uphill battle here in the mountains with JMaddy. Roberson has passed for 1,493 yards with eight touchdowns to five picks thru eight games.

Norwich native Cam Edwards scored in the two games prior to the loss to Tennessee, and he’s up to 383 yards on 80 carries for the season.

Sophomore tight end Justin Joly gained 89 yards last week, and he now leads UConn with 408 receiving yards on 34 catches.

The UConn defense has allowed 32.5 points per game.

James Madison Dukes Preview

James Madison improved to 9-0 after defeating Georgia State in Atlanta, 42-14. The Dukes went down to ATL and handled business, and they’ll now look to advance tk 10-0 this weekend. The JMU offense is scoring 32.1 ppg, while passing for 258.5 ypg, rushing for 149.3 ypg, and converting 34.7% of their third downs.

JMU Player Notes

Jordan McCloud had a strong showing in Atlanta, going 28/36 for 307 yards, with four touchdowns to one interception. The former USF QB has settled in nicely here in Harrisonburg, and he’ll look to quarterback the Dukes to another victory Saturday afternoon. McCloud has passed for 2,330 yards, with 22 touchdowns to seven interceptions thru nine starts.

Kaelon Black totaled 63 yards in the win over the Monarchs, and he leads JMU in rushing yards with 486 on 110 carries.

Senior wideout Reggie Brown went off with a 9-catch, 142-yard performance last weekend, and he leads the Dukes with 691 receiving yards on 35 catches.

Sophomore receiver Elijah Sarratt matched his energy with a similar line (8/139/1), and he’s first on the team in receptions (39) for 594 yards receiving.

The JMU defense has allowed 20.2 points per game.

It doesn’t end here for my Dukes, I’ll tell you that. JMU is well on its way to completing the most unfairly-treated undefeated season of all time. A home matchup with App State could be tricky next week, and so could the season finale on the blue turf down at Coastal Carolina, but this weekend shouldn’t serve up any danger at all. UConn is in a tough spot right now, and similar to UMass, they’re simply outmatched every time they take the field. This contest should come down to a matter of how much, so let’s back a big win for JMU here at home.
