The Nevada Wolf Pack will head to Logan to meet the Utah State Aggies in conference play this weekend from Maverik Stadium on the Mountain West Network.
Nevada Wolf Pack Preview
Nevada fell to 2-7 after losing to Hawaii in Reno, 27-14. The Wolf Pack fell back into the loss column after starting out slow against the Warriors, and they’ll look to regroup here against USU. The Nevada offense is scoring 17.6 ppg, while passing for 173.4 ypg, rushing for 123.9 ypg, and converting 31.8% of their third downs.
Nevada Player Notes
Brendon Lewis picked up an injury in the loss to Nevada, and AJ Bianco closed the contest. The freshman QB only went 5/15 for 76 yards and a pick, so he might struggle if called upon again this weekend in Logan.
Junior back Sean Dollars scored in the rivalry game against UNLV, and he leads the backfield with just 345 yards on 105 carries.
Senior wideout Jamaal Bell has cooled off since a great game against USC, but he leads the Pack in receptions (29) for 252 receiving yards.
The Nevada defense is allowing 32.0 points per game.
Utah State Aggies Preview
Utah State enters at 4-5 after defeating San Diego State on the road, 32-24. The Aggies edged out a double overtime victory over the Aztecs, and they’ll look to get back to .500 this weekend. The USU offense is scoring 37.8 ppg, while passing for 268.5 ypg, rushing for 162.0 ypg, and converting 37.3% of their third downs.
USU Player Notes
Cooper Legas returned behind center last week, and game-managed the contest well, going 11/15 for 167 yards, with a pair of scores. The senior QB played well prior to injury, and he’ll face a lighter matchup here at home against Nevada. Legas has passed for 1,505 yards, with 15 touchdowns to six interceptions thru seven appearances.
Junior back Davon Booth found the endzone against SDSU, and he leads USU in rushing with 566 yards on 97 carries.
Senior wideout Terrell Vaughn has caught seven passes or more in six of eight games this season, and he leads the team in receptions (64) for 730 receiving yards.
The USU defense is allowing 32.8 points per game.
Nevada vs Utah State Trends
NEV is 5-4 against the spread, with a 3-6 O/U record.
USU is 5-4 ATS, with a 6-3 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Nevada’s shown some fight over the past four weeks, but if their starting QB Brendan Lewis misses this game, they might come into this spot a bit outmatched. Utah State played San Diego State very well on the road last week, and I like that momentum rolling into this matchup. The Under may be in play due to Nevada’s situation behind center, but let’s back Utah State for this Mountain West matchup.
