Fresno State Bulldogs Preview
Fresno State improved to 8-1 after defeating Boise State on the road, 37-30. The Bulldogs held off a late rally from the Broncos to leave the blue turf as winners, and they’ll look to win a fourth straight game this weekend. The Fresno offense is scoring 34.0 ppg, while passing for 297.7 ypg, rushing for 109.3 ypg, and converting 50.4% of their third downs.
Fresno State Player Notes
Mikey Keene played well in Boise last week, passing for 290 yards and a touchdown. The former UCF quarterback has eased the loss of longtime QB Jake Haener, and he’ll look to lead Fresno to another victory this Saturday. Keene has passed for 2,238 yards with 20 touchdowns to seven interceptions thru eight games.
Junior back Malik Sherrod dashed for a season-high 132 yards in win over the Broncos, and he’s up to 620 yards on 109 carries for the season.
Senior wideout Erik Brooks found the endzone last weekend, and he leads Fresno in receiving yards (565) on 45 catches.
The Fresno defense has allowed 21.6 points per game.
San Jose State Spartans Preview
San Jose State moved to 4-5 after defeating Hawaii in Honolulu, 35-0. The Spartans silenced the Warriors for four quarters, and they’ll also look to pin their fourth straight win this weekend. The San Jose offense is scoring 33.0 ppg, while passing for 229.0 ypg, rushing for 167.4 ypg, and converting 44.1% of their third downs.
SJSU Player Notes
Chevan Cordeiro returned home and had a strong outing, passing for 251 yards and two scores in the win over Hawaii. The Honolulu native spurned his former school, and he’ll now attempt to get the Spartans back to .509. Cordeiro has thrown for 1,989 yards, with 13 touchdowns to three interceptions thru nine starts.
Senior back Kairee Robinson has found the endzone in all eight of his games this season, and he leads SJSU in rushing with 719 yards on 111 carries.
Junior wideout Nick Nash scored twice in the win over Hawaii, and he leads the Spartans with splits of 37/502/7.
The SJSU defense has allowed 27.4 points per game.
Fresno State vs San Jose State Trends
FRES is 4-5 against the spread, with a 5-3-1 O/U record.
SJSU is 7-2 ATS, with a 6-3 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
San Jose State being favored against an 8-1 Fresno team tells the story, as they’ve turned things around over the past five weeks. The Bulldogs come in on the heels of a strong road victory over Boise State themselves, so while they look like appealing underdogs, this one will truly be tough to call. This should be a contested battle, that may come down to the fourth quarter, so I like taking the Over for this in-state battle.
