The South Carolina Gamecocks will travel down to College Station to meet the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend in SEC play from Kyle Field on ESPN. Texas A&M has dominated this series (8-1) since joining the conference back in 2014, but South Carolina won for the first time last season in Columbia, 30-24.

South Carolina Gamecocks Preview

South Carolina dropped to 2-5 after losing to Missouri on the road, 34-12. The Gamecocks weren’t about to keep up with the Tigers in the battle of Columbia, and they’ll look to avoid a fourth straight defeat this Saturday. The SC offense is scoring 32.3 ppg, while passing for 298.7 ypg, rushing for 93.7 ypg, and converting 35.1% of their third downs.

SC Player Notes

Spencer Rattler struggled on the road again last week, only going 23/40 for 217 yards and a pick. The former OU quarterback has struggled away from home this season, and he’ll now face one of the toughest environments in college football, on a homecoming Saturday. Rattler has passed for 1,941 yards, with 11 touchdowns to five interceptions thru seven games.

• Senior back Mario Anderson missed the 100-yard mark for the first time in four games, but he still leads the team in rushing (396).

• Veteran wideout Xavier Leggette was held below five catches for the first time this season, but he still leads SC in receptions (38) and receiving yards (736).

• The SC defense has allowed 31.7 points per game.

Texas A&M Aggies Preview

Texas A&M fell to 4-3 after falling to Tennessee in Knoxville by a touchdown, 20-13. The Aggies stalled offensively in the second half of the loss to the Vols, and they’ll look to avoid a third straight loss this weekend. The A&M offense is scoring 32.3 ppg, while passing for 268.1 ypg, rushing for 131.9 ypg, and converting 45.2% of their third downs.

Texas A&M Player Notes

Max Johnson struggled against Tennessee last time out, going 16/34 for 223 yards and two interceptions. The former LSU quarterback hasn’t been bad in relief for Connor Weigman, and he should enjoy the tone down in the matchup here after dealing with the Vols and the Tide.  Johnson has passed for 898 yards with seven touchdowns to four interceptions through six games.

• Sophomore RB Le’Veon Moss gained 81 yards in the loss to Tennessee, and he leads A&M in rushing with 387 yards on 77 carries.

• Second-year receiver Evan Stewart has reached the 50-yard mark in four of his first six games, and he leads the Aggies in receptions (27) and receiving yards (451).

• Veteran wideout Ainias Smith is tied with Stewart for the team-lead with 451 yards on 27 catches..

The A&M defense is allowing 19.8 points per game.

South Carolina vs Texas A&M Trends

SC is 4-3 against the spread, with a 4-3 O/U record.

A&M is 4-3 ATS, with a 4-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Spencer Rattler’s senior season hasn’t gone as expected, and this matchup could add insult to injury. South Carolina just hasn’t been able to figure things out in SEC play, and they’re in danger of taking a fourth straight loss. Jimbo Fisher’s seat at A&M continues to remain warm, and he should have this squad ready to rebound and avoid a third consecutive loss. Throw in a hostile, homecoming Aggie crowd, and the ingredients are there for another South Carolina loss. Let’s back a strong defensive outing from Texas A&M at home, and take the Under for this SEC battle.
