The East Carolina Pirates will head down to San Antonio to meet the UTSA Roadrunners in AAC play this weekend from the Alamodome on ESPN+.
East Carolina Pirates Preview
East Carolina dropped to 1-6 after losing to Charlotte by three, 10-7. The Pirates hit a new low by dropping their homecoming game to the newly promoted, in-state 49ers, and they’ll face an uphill battle here at the Alamo on Saturday. The ECU offense is scoring 17.4 ppg, while passing for 161.0 ypg, rushing for 115.9 ypg, and converting 30.8% of their third downs.
ECU Player Notes
• Mason Garcia and Alex Flinn continue to trade snaps at the quarterback position, and it’s been a mess all season. Flinn managed to toss the only touchdown after going 11/18 for 69 yards, and he’ll likely receive more time than the latter again this weekend. Flinn has passed for 718 yards, with two touchdowns to six interceptions.
• Junior back Rahjai Harris scored in the final three September games, and he leads the team with 249 rushing yards.
• Freshman wideout Chase Sowell had a big game against SMU, and he leads ECU in receptions (25) and receiving yards (295).
• The ECU defense has allowed 24.2 points per game.
UTSA Roadrunners Preview
UTSA moved to 4-3 after defeating FAU in Boca Raton, 36-10. The Roadrunners jumped back above .500 with their third straight victory, and they’ll look to keep rolling into November with more success this weekend. The UTSA offense is scoring 29.0 ppg, while passing for 238.4 ypg, rushing for 161.0 ypg, and converting 46.6% of their third downs.
UTSA Player Notes
• Frank Harris had another solid effort behind center for San Antonio, passing for 261 yards and a pair of scores. The senior quarterback’s return has eased life on the entire program, and he’ll look to lead them to another victory here against ECU. Harris has thrown for 1,193 yards, with nine touchdowns to five interceptions.
• Sophomore RB Kevorian Barnes has surpassed the 50-yard mark in six of seven games, and he leads UTSA in rushing with 469 yards on 104 carries.
• Senior wideout Joshua Cephus has scored and caught seven passes or more in six of the first seven games, and he’s first on the team in receptions (51) and receiving yards (496).
• The UTSA defense has allowed 25.1 points per game.
East Carolina vs UT-San Antonio Trends
• ECU is 2-5 ATS, with a 2-5 over/under record.
• UTSA is 3-4 against the spread, with a 2-5 O/U record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Things have grown stale fast in Greenville this season, as ECU has still yet to secure a FBS victory, and it’s very unlikely that changes here at the Alamodome. UTSA has found their stride with Frank Harris back at quarterback, and I just don’t see East Carolina coming in and spoiling this group of seniors' final homecoming. This AAC matchup should come down to a matter of how much, so let’s roll with UTSA at home, and give the Over a look, as the hosts may be able to handle the heavy lifting.
