The Penn State Nittany Lions will make the trip to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in Big Ten play this weekend from the Horseshoe on FOX. The Ohio State/Penn State has become the second best rivalry in the conference over the previous two decades, and they've faced off in every season since 1993. OSU leads the all-time series, 23-14.

Penn State Nittany Lions Preview

Penn State improved to 6-0 after blowing out Massachusetts in Happy Valley, 63-0. The Nittany Lions scored multiple touchdowns in the final three periods en route to their largest win of the season, and they’ll now face their toughest test of the season here in Columbus. The Penn State offense is scoring 44.3 ppg, while passing for 223.3 ypg, rushing for 203.3 ypg, and converting 48.3% of their third downs.

PSU Player Notes

Drew Allar had another flawless outing versus UMass, tossing three touchdowns, while rushing for another. The sophomore quarterback has passed every test thus far cleanly, and he’ll now head into what may be the biggest challenge of his career here against Ohio State. Allar has passed for 1,254 yards, with 12 touchdowns to no interceptions thru six starts.

Kaytron Allen and Noah Singleton have split the touches well for PSU. Singleton has scored in five of the first six games, and gained 362 yards on the ground, while Allen leads the team in rushing (375) after big games against Delaware and Illinois.

• Norfolk native KeAandre Lambert-Smith has caught six passes or more in three of the last five games, and he leads the Nittany Lions in receptions (31) and receiving yards (402).

• The PSU defense is allowing 8.0 points per game.

Ohio State Buckeyes Preview

Ohio State improved to 6-0 after defeating Purdue in West Lafayette, 41-7. The Buckeyes capitalized on a fast start to blow the Boilermakers out, and they’ll look to add a second top-ten ranked win this weekend. The OSU offense is scoring 36.0 ppg, while passing for 308.0 ypg, rushing for 135.0 ypg, and converting 43.4% of their third downs.

OSU Player Notes

Kyle McCord quarterbacked his third victory in Indiana last weekend, passing for 276 yards and three scores along the way. The junior quarterback hasn’t turned the ball over in five weeks, and while this may not be as steep a test as facing Notre Dame in South Bend was, this battle followed up his heroic effort versus Notre Dame in style, and he’ll look to secure his third victory in Indiana this season Saturday. McCord has passed for 1,651 yards, with eleven touchdowns to one interception through six starts.

• Senior back Chip Trayanum has scored in three of the previous four games, and he’s OSU’s leading rusher (235 yards), with junior RB Treveyon Henderson on the shelf.

• Junior wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. breached the 100-yard mark and scored for the fourth time in five games, and he leads OSU in receptions (31) and receiving yards (604).

• The OSU defense has allowed 9.6 points per game.

Penn State vs Ohio State Trends

PSU is 6-0 against the spread, with a 4-2 O/U record.

OSU is 3-2-1 ATS, with a 1-5 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

This contest has remained one of the more anticipated midseason matchups since Penn State’s upset win back in 2016, but Ohio State has won each of the past four meetings by double figures, and there’s a good chance they win a seventh straight overall. The Buckeyes being back at the Horseshoe will be their biggest advantage here, and I believe they’ll come through on the manageable margin. This is where James Franklin’s team has hit the wall in eight of his nine seasons in charge, and while I’d love to see them breakthrough and take over the conference, we may be in for more of the same here with these two teams. Back Ohio State for this battle of Big Ten heavyweights.
