The Miami Hurricanes will play the North Carolina Tar Heels in an ACC game on Saturday night at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Miami is coming off of a very disappointing loss to Georgia Tech, while North Carolina has won five games in a row to start the season.

Miami Preview

The Miami Hurricanes are 4-1 (0-1) this season after they lost to Georgia Tech by a score of 23-20 last week. Miami led 20-17 with under a minute left, but instead of kneeling the ball, they ran a play and fumbled. Georgia Tech was able to convert that into the game winning touchdown with two seconds left. The Hurricanes out gained Georgia Tech by a total of 453-250, but turned the ball over five times in the loss. Miami had won their first four games against Miami (OH), Texas A&M, Bethune-Cookman, and Temple. The Miami offense is scoring 39 points per game with 294.8 passing yards per game and 211 rushing yards per game, while going 50% on third down conversions this year. Tyler Van Dyke has thrown for 1,330 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions for the Hurricanes this season. Henry Parrish Jr. has rushed for 379 yards and four scores, while Xavier Restrepo has caught 36 passes for 478 yards and two touchdowns. The Miami defense is allowing 14.6 points against per game this year.

North Carolina Preview

The North Carolina Tar Heels are 5-0 (2-0) this season after they defeated Syracuse by a score of 40-7 in their last game. North Carolina led 27-0 at the half and cruised to the easy win. The Tar Heels out gained Syracuse by a total of 644-221 and forced two turnovers in the game. North Carolina has also defeated South Carolina, Appalachian State, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh this year. The North Carolina offense is scoring 36.6 points per game with 325.8 passing yards per game and 174.2 rushing yards per game, while going 56.6% on third downs. Drake Maye has thrown for 1,629 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions for the Tar Heels this season. Omarion Hampton has rushed for 461 yards and seven scores, while Nate McCollum has caught 28 passes for 355 yards and one touchdown. The UNC defense is giving up 19 points against per game this season.

North Carolina Tar Heels Team Facts

  • North Carolina has won eight of its last nine home games in October.
  • The underdog has covered the spread in six of the last seven games between Miami (FL) and North Carolina.
  • Five of the last six October games between Miami (FL) and North Carolina have gone UNDER the total points line.

Miami Hurricanes Team Facts

  • The team ranked 25th in the AP Poll has won 10 of its last 11 games.
  • Miami (FL) has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five games in October.
  • Miami (FL) has lost the first half in four of its last five games against conference opponents at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
  • Five of Miami (FL)'s last six October games as an underdog against AP-ranked teams have gone OVER the total points line.

North Carolina comes into this game trying to stay unbeaten, but will play a very good Miami team in this matchup. The Hurricanes should also be undefeated, but they really messed up the end of game situation last week against Georgia Tech. Both of these offenses have been very good and the defenses have also played well. This should be a great game and I expect plenty of points to be scored, but I am going with Miami in this one. I think last week was more of a look ahead problem for the Hurricanes and I think we are going to see a much better effort here.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
