The Kansas State Wildcats will play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 game on Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. Kansas State is coming off of a rough loss to Oklahoma State last week, while Texas Tech has won two games in a row.

Kansas State Preview

The Kansas State Wildcats are 3-2 (1-1) this season after they lost to Oklahoma State by a score of 29-21 last week. Kansas State trailed 20-7 at halftime, but did cut the lead to 29-21 with about nine minutes left, but couldn’t come up with the game tying score. The Wildcats were out gained by a total of 412-372 and turned the ball over three times in the game. Kansas State won their Big 12 opener against UCF, but their first loss of the season came against Missouri on the road. The Kansas State offense is scoring 39.4 points per game with 257.4 passing yards per game and 202.8 rushing yards per game, while going 50.7% on third downs. Will Howard has thrown for 1,224 yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while also rushing for 227 yards and six touchdowns for the Wildcats this season. DJ Giddens has rushed for 488 yards and four touchdowns, while Ben Sinnott has caught 20 passes for 286 yards and three scores. The Kansas State defense is allowing 20.6 points against per game this year, but has allowed 29, 31, and 30 points in their last three games.

Texas Tech Preview

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are 3-3 (2-1) this season after they defeated Baylor by a score of 39-14 in their last game. Texas Tech led 17-3 at the half and extended the lead to 24-3 going into the fourth quarter for the win. The Red Raiders out gained Baylor by a total of 366-341 and went 10-18 on third downs in the game. Texas Tech opened the season with losses to Wyoming and Oregon, but they have won three out of four games, despite losing their starting quarterback for the season. The Texas Tech offense is averaging 34 points per game with 219.5 passing yards per game and 178.8 rushing yards per game, while going 42.2% on third downs. Behren Morton has thrown for 571 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions for the Red Raiders this year. Tahj Brooks has rushed for 688 yards and four scores, while Myles Price has caught 27 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns. The Texas Tech defense is giving up 23 points against per game this season.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Team Facts

  • Texas Tech has won each of its last seven matches at Jones AT&T Stadium when playing with a rest disadvantage.
  • Texas Tech has covered the spread in eight of its last nine matches as a home favorite when playing with a rest disadvantage.
  • Each of Texas Tech's last four games against conference opponents at Jones AT&T Stadium have gone OVER the total points line.

Kansas State Wildcats Team Facts

  • Kansas State has won each of its last three games as an underdog against Texas Tech.
  • Kansas State has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five road games in October.
  • Five of Kansas State's last six October games as a road underdog have gone OVER the total points line.

Pick

Texas Tech opened the season with two straight losses, but they have played some solid football over the last two games and will look for a big home win here. Kansas State did not play well on the road against Oklahoma State last week and they are 0-2 on the road this season. Kansas State has the better yardage numbers, but I think Texas Tech is finally getting comfortable to having the backup quarterback under center. The Red Raiders have scored 49 and 39 points in their last two games and I like them to get another win in this game.

David’s Pick Texas Tech -1.5
