The Syracuse Orange will head down to West Lafayette to meet the Purdue Boilermakers in non-conference action this weekend from Ross-Ade Stadium on NBC. Syracuse took last year’s meeting at home in a great matchup, 32-29.
Syracuse Orange Preview
Syracuse moved to 2-0 after defeating Western Michigan at home by a final score of 48-7. The Orange allowed a big opening drive touchdown, but buckled down to shut out the Broncos for the rest of the way, and they’ll now travel for the first time this season. Through two contests, the Syracuse offense is scoring 56.5 ppg, while averaging 586.5 total yards per game, passing for 374.5 ypg, and gaining 212.0 ypg on the ground.
Syracuse Player Notes
• Garrett Shrader handled Western Michigan well last week, passing for 286 yards, with a passing and rushing touchdown. The Charlotte native did a good job against Purdue last year at home, but he’ll now have to replicate that effort in primetime on the road this time around. Shrader has passed for 543 yards, with five touchdowns to one interception through two starts.
• Sophomore back Lequint Allen scored three times in the win over WMU, and he leads the Orange with 127 rushing yards and four touchdowns for the season.
• Second-year wideout Umari Hatcher leads Cuse in receptions (9) and receiving yards (188).
• The Syracuse defense held Alabama to 5/14 on third downs, while allowing 362 yards of total offense.
Purdue Boilermakers Preview
Purdue enters at 1-1 after defeating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg by a touchdown, 24-17. The Boilermakers responded to a season-opening loss to Fresno State by traveling and picking up a tough win over the Hokies, and they’ll look to double down against the ACC this weekend. Through two games, the Purdue offense is scoring 29.5 ppg, while totaling 489.5 yards per game, gaining 251.0 ypg through the air, and rushing for 144.0!ypg.
Purdue Player Notes
• Hudson Card earned his first win as a Boilermaker in Blacksburg last weekend, passing for 248 yards, and rushing for a touchdown. The former Texas quarterback performed well in front of a hostile Lane Stadium crowd, and he’ll look to avenge the season-opening loss to Fresno State. Card has passed for 502 yards and two touchdowns thru two starts.
• Sophomore back Devin Mockobee surpassed the 100-yard mark in the win over the Hokies, and he leads Purdue in rushing yards (155), while scoring in both contests.
• Deion Burks leads the Boilermakers in receiving yards (170) after having a big against Fresno.
Corey’s Free Pick
Syracuse will leave the dome and be tested for the first time on the road this season, and I like Purdue’s chances of getting revenge this year at home. The Boilermakers nearly pulled off the underdog win last season in New York, and they’ll have all of the motive to complete the mission this time around. Take the profitable shot with Purdue at home this weekend.
