Miami-OH at Cincinnati Prediction - College Football Picks 9/16/23
The Cincinnati Bearcats will host the Miami (OH) RedHawks for an in-state matchup this Saturday from Nippert Stadium. Cincinnati and Miami have faced off for the Victory Bell for over 120 years, meeting in each season since 1945. Cincy took the all-time series lead last season, 60-59-7, and they’ve sixteen straight contests.
Miami (OH) Redhawks Jayhawks Preview
Miami-Ohio enters at 1-1 after defeating UMass on the road, 41-28. The RedHawks jumped out to a big 21-0 first quarter lead, and held on to earn their first victory, and they’ll look to shake up the state with success in Cincinnati this weekend. Through two games, the Miami offense is scoring 22.0 ppg, gaining 233.0 ypg through the air, and rushing for 97.5 ypg.
Miami Player Notes
• Brett Gabbert, brother of former Mizzou QB Blaine, naturally performed better against UMass than in the opener against Miami, passing for 302 yards with four touchdowns to two interceptions.
• Sophomore back Rashad Amos led the way with a career-high 107 yards in the win over UMass.
• SELA transfer Gage Larvadain is a name to watch, as he’s caught eight passes in both games, and went off for 273 receiving yards against the Minutemen last week.
Cincinnati Bearcats Preview
Cincinnati comes in at 2-0 after defeating Pittsburgh on the road by six, 27-21. The Bearcats pounced on the Panthers early, then held on to take out their former conference finals, and they’ll look to flex their muscles in this in-state battle Saturday. Through two contests, the Cincinnati offense is scoring 46.5 ppg, while passing for 296.5 ypg, while gaining 222.5 ypg on the ground.
Cincy Player Notes
• The Emory Jones Experience has landed in Cincinnati after stays in Gainesville and Tempe, and he played a big part in the win over Pittsburgh last week with leadership and a pair of touchdown passes. Jones has totaled 470 passing yards with seven touchdowns to one interception, and scored twice on the ground thru two games.
• Corey Kiner put together a strong, physical effort against the Panthers, rushing for 153 yards on 20 carries, including a 68-yard touchdown run
• Louisville transfer Braden Smith has scored in both contests, and he’s up to nine catches for 131 receiving yards.
Corey’s Free Pick
Cincinnati has a chance to walk into their first season in the Big 12 undefeated, and I believe they’ll come through on their end here Saturday. Similar to the matchup with Miami (FL), Miami-OH may end up getting outmuscled by a Cincy defense that still has pieces from the CFB Playoff team, and there’s a good chance they can tackle this two-score margin. Back Cincinnati here, as they look to remain sharp with a intro to the conference matchup with Oklahoma looming next weekend.
