The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will head down to Oxford to meet the Ole Miss Rebels in non-conference action from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the SEC Network. Ole Miss shut Georgia Tech out in Atlanta last season to take the head-to-head lead, 3-2.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Preview
Georgia Tech comes in at 1-1 following a home win over South Carolina State, 48-13. The Yellow Jackets rebounded from a season-opening loss to Louisville with the massive victory, and they’ll now face a must stiffer test in Oxford this weekend.
Through two contests, the GT offense is scoring 41.0, while averaging 533 total yards per game, passing for 399 ypg, and gaining 116!ypg on the ground.
Georgia Tech Player Notes
• Haynes King had a flawless outing against South Carolina State, going 21/29 for 290 yards, and four scores. The Texas A&M transfer is fitting in nicely with his new squad in Atlanta, and he’ll look to leave his mark here in this road spot. King has totaled 603 passing yards, with seven touchdowns to one interception through two contests.
• Former Louisville RB Trey Cooley paced the backfield again with 154 total yards, and a second straight multi-touchdown game.
• Sophomore wideout Malik Rutherford leads GT in receptions (10) and receiving yards (145).
• The GT defense let South Carolina State convert 7/15 of their third downs, but allowed just 196 total yards.
Ole Miss Rebels Preview
Ole Miss enters at 2-0 after defeating Tulane in New Orleans by a final score of 37-20. The Rebels tacked on a quality non-conference win after pulling away in the fourth quarter to take down the Green Wave, and they’ll look to tune up before taking a trip to Tuscaloosa next weekend. Through two games, the Ole Miss offense is scoring 55.0 ppg, while totaling 515.0 yards per game, gaining 399.0 ypg through the air, and rushing for 116.0 ypg.
Ole Miss Player Notes
• Jaxson Dart had another solid outing last week against Tulane, passing for 267 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pick. The former USC quarterback has ironically settled in as Lane Kiffin’s guy at Ole Miss, and he’ll look to deliver here against GT. Dart has totaled 601 passing yards, with six touchdowns to one interceptions, and 77 rushing yards through two starts.
• Sophomore back Quinshon Judkins didn’t have much room to run against a stingy Green Wave front seven, but he found the endzone for the second weekend in a row, and he’s up to 108 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the season.
• LT transfer Tre Harris followed up his fourth-touchdown performance versus Mercer by scoring in the win over Tulane, and he’s caught eight passes for 188 yards with the five scores through two games.
• Senior wideout Jordan Watkins leads the Rebels in receptions (11), with 171 receiving yards.
• The Ole Miss defense held Tulane to 9/22 on third downs, while allowing 342 total yards.
Corey’s Free Pick
Ole Miss stuck it to Georgia Tech last year in Atlanta, but this is a different Yellow Jackets team, and there’s a chance they will host much more of a contest this season. The Rebels looked good in New Orleans last weekend, so there’s minimal chance of an upset here, but with the magic number sitting really high, let’s test the under for this ACC/SEC matchup.
