The Army Black Knights and UTSA Roadrunners face off on Friday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Alamodome.

Is Army Passing More This Season?

Army is still a run first team no doubt, but it appears this team might actually be passing more this season. In the first game of the season against Louisiana-Monroe they lost 17-13, but quarterback Bryson Daily completed 5 of his 11 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. In the last game against Delaware State, Army was able to secure the 57-0 and Daily completed 8 of his 11 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed nine times for 65 yards and two touchdowns. On the season Daily rushed 32 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns. In the first game the offense only scored 13 points, and they are going to need the offense to be better here.

Army Betting Preview

  • Army has won four of its last five games.
  • Army has covered the spread in seven of its last eight games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Four of Army's last five games against non-AP-ranked teams have gone OVER the total points line.

Frank Harris Bounces Back

After UTSA quarterback Frank Harris struggled in the first game, he looked a whole lot better against Texas State completing 26 of his 37 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown. Kevorian Barnes also had a big game finishing with 26 carries for 103 yards. In the first game against Houston, Frank Harris really struggled throwing three interceptions and they ended up losing 17-14. One of the biggest consistent factors so far this season has been the play of running back Barnes and he’s going to need to have a big game here.

UTSA Betting Preview

  • UTSA has won each of its last 17 games against non-AP-ranked teams at Alamodome.
  • UTSA has failed to cover the spread in nine of its last 11 September home games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • UTSA has won the first half in four of its last five games against non-conference opponents at Alamodome.
  • Each of UTSA's last three games as a favorite have gone UNDER the total points line.

UTSA vs Army Facts

  • UTSA ranked T13th among FBS teams for H1 win percentage last season (.714).
  • UTSA ranked 14th among FBS teams for points per game last season (36.8).
  • Army ranked T27th among FBS teams for H1 win percentage last season (.667).
  • Army ranked T28th among FBS teams for H2 points allowed per game last season (10.6).

Shane’s Free Pick

I don’t trust UTSA to really blowout anyone, at least early in the season and they are going to struggle again in this game. Frank Harris was better in the second game, but in this game they are going to keep the ball on the ground more. Army lost their first game by four points and that’s right around where this game will end up. Daily will have a big game from Army and that will be enough for the Black Knights to cover the spread. Back Army against the spread.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
